鮨HiRO — Restaurant in Hirosaki

This place is phenomenal! We came to Hirosaki for 5 days to hike and see the fall foliage, and this restaurant was recommended to us by our hotel manager. We had such a great experience the first time that we had to come back three days later! Both nights we had a fantastic time. The food was absolutely amazing!! The chef is a true artist! Night one we had sashimi, tempura vegetables, and nigiri, and on night two we did the crab, sashimi, and a large sushi roll! We were very limited in our ability to speak Japanese so they FaceTimed their son, who was studying and living in Australia, to help translate for us. He was so helpful and very sweet! We didn’t want to inconvenience him, but you can tell he loves his family business and was so happy to help. We normally use different translation apps to help us communicate, and the fact that we didn’t need to with them was such a personal touch! Then they passed the phone around to everyone in the restaurant so they could all say hello to him as well. The love was palpable in this little restaurant and you can tell they love what they do and the people who walk through those front doors. Even the people sitting around us at the sushi counter were engaging and connecting with us, whether it was them using google translate to tell us what fish we were eating, or sharing their Sake Yeast bottle with us, or suggesting whiskey to try. Everyone in that space was so friendly and fun! The service that they provided us was beyond what we could have imagined, and we felt very special. My favorite restaurant in Hirosaki, and, after two weeks traveling around Aomori, Kyoto, and Tokyo, all of Japan. The service is fantastic - the owners had their son chat with me via video from Australia to ensure I did not have any issues with my order. The food was amazing.
