Rush — Restaurant in Iwakuni

The past two occasions that our family has eaten here, we’ve had a negative service experience. The first time, my son’s risotto arrived an hour after ordering…after all people in our party had finished eating. They kept telling us it would be out ‘in 5 minutes’ over and over again and it wasn’t true. We kept hearing the waitstaff talking about us behind the counter and laughing while my 12 year old son waited on his food. On the most recent occasion, I ordered a ‘A5 Wagyu steak with salt,’ the waitress repeated my order and all at my table heard my order. My steak came out covered in sauce, not with salt, as ordered. When I told them it was incorrect, they kept whispering about the situation behind the counter and coming out with the dish again insisting I eat my meal. To get the steak, as ordered, I had to insist over and over again that they had my order incorrect. I like the taste of steak, so having it covered in sauce would not taste good to me, especially a sweet sauce. The waitstaff at Rush is rude, dishonest, and unprofessional. Family next to us asked waiter if the pasta was spicy because his daughter could not eat spicy foods. Waiter told him it was not spicey at all. The pasta was came out spicy so he asked the waiter to make him another non spicy pasta and the waiter said he could not. They asked to see the owner and the owner refused to see them saying he was busy. The family didn't eat the pasta and asked them to not charge it in the bill. Then the owner finally showed up screaming at the family and telling them he will call police. Their poor daughter began to cry. The owner is the worst I seen. Do not go here. Great steak, exceptionally kind staff. But beyond the steak, the menu is just a bit … weird. Not sure what sort of taste they’re catering to but offering something more akin to the traditional Japanese teppan offerings might be nice. That being said, other such places do exist in Iwakuni, and perhaps the truffle-heavy offerings at Rush just aren’t for me. Still worth a visit.
