I came here to celebrate a friends birthday. We were a party of 6 and had called ahead earlier that day to make reservations. As it turned out, it was quite empty. There seemed to be a large party of people in a separate room, but otherwise, it was just us and two other groups of girls.
First impressions: The restaurant is located within an old building, sharing the space with some other shops. At the outset, all the shops look very trendy with that renovated industrial look. However, when you enter into the vestibule space and then up the stairs, the building basically just looks abandoned. There's a fine line between trendy and beat up, and the shared spaces in between each business feels sketchy and dingy. The restaurant itself is beautiful, but for a few moments while I was finding my way I seriously thought I was in the wrong building.
Food: The menu offers pretty typical cafe food (pasta, pizza, rice dishes, etc). For dinner it is towards the pricier side (around ¥2000) but still quite affordable, especially for special events. I got the hambagu and my boyfriend got a pizza. I also had a chance to taste most of our friends food. All in all it was good, but a bit salty. They had options to add bread to your meal, so perhaps the food was flavored to eat alongside additional bread.
Service: The service here was the one thing that slightly soured our experience. When we were just about ready to order, we called over our waitress and asked her what the daily specials were. She pointed to a blackboard that was on the other side of the restaurant, partially obscured by some hanging light bulbs. For a good minute we visibly and audibly struggled through both: sounding out the kanji and katakana, and shifting back and forth to see past the blinding light bulb. All this time she silently stood and watched us. Eventually we gave up on reading as it got awkward. When we went to pay at the end of the meal, she mumbled our total, we put down our money, but apparently my boyfriend and I had both misheard (he is fully fluent so it was not an language issue). I wouldn't usually consider this a service issue, but our other friends had the same thing happen to them. One of our friends even tried repeating back the amount to confirm (which turned out to be the wrong amt) and the waitress did not reply. We had a brief interaction with another one of the staff which was excellent in comparison. He was very courteous and polite.
All in all, I would like to come here again (if I can find out when that particular waitress is NOT working). The food here is good, and the atmosphere is excellent. If not for the service, I would have given a...
