Japanese take on Italian pizza. Channeling David Portney, I order a Diablo pizza. Italian style meaning it’s not the pizza that Americans butchered from Italy in the form of Pizza Hut, Papa John’s, etc.. This is Italian style.
One bite, everyone knows the rules. Pizza comes with hot sauce on the side. This is a Diable that has Italian pepperoni (big slices), good sauce and good cheese. Melted even. Crust is chewy and light. You have to cut your own slices so two of my slices had some flop to it. Rest of the pie held firm so it’s maybe just where the pizza was positioned when it was being cooked. Did one slice with hot sauce and one without. Both stand on their own equally although my preference is spicy. I ran out of hot sauce with a slice left. The entire restaurant is basically themed Italian. You got one beer choice and it’s Peroni. I’m not a beer drinker but being in Japan I’m willing to try new things especially on a Sunday. Beer was good. Pizza score would a 8.2/10 mainly because it was solidly traditional and unlike papa John’s pizza where the flop is so severe that half the topppings slide off just pulling up a slice.
Side order. Grilled Italian sausage with spicy horseradish mustard. It was a great add on and to me added more flavor with the pizza.
