I often say that you can’t have a bad meal in Japan, but this was a pretty mediocre experience. The sushi rice was mushy and had too much vinegar. The fish quality wasn’t great. The upsetting part was that the owner charges ¥4000 for his “special” donnuri bowl and the top Nigiri set. It was eight pieces each of mediocre quality fish.
Having traveled around Hokkaido for a week, ¥4000 is a lot for one dish. We’ve had really fresh donburi balls for ¥2500 or ¥3000. He also charged ¥400 per small cup of “clear” soup when it’s included at most other places. This owner is taking advantage of tourists and it’s very obvious.

The menu had Japanese English and pictures and the chef took our order and also spoke some English. He was very friendly. we ordered some nigiri and rolls and everything was freshly made and so delicious!!!! Best sushi ever. Awesome lunch after a big morning hike....
