We visited the Kanazawa Port Ikiiki Market in November 2024, around 9 AM. We took a direct bus from our hotel, which took about 30 minutes to arrive. There’s also a bus from Kanazawa Station that takes about 35-40 minutes, so just check Google for the best route.

The market wasn’t crowded, and it isn’t as large or as touristy as other markets, which is exactly what we prefer. Besides the two of us, there was only one other tourist couple; the rest of the visitors were locals or local tourists.

The atmosphere here felt much more relaxed. Although the market is smaller and has fewer options for comparison, we actually preferred it that way.

We bought a pre-boiled Matsuba crab for ¥3,500, which was just enough for two people. Although our Japanese wasn’t very strong, the lady at the store was kind and patient with us. She provided sauce and utensils for eating the crab. The crab meat was juicy and sweet on its own, and the sauce enhanced its flavor. Overall, it was excellent.

Additionally, we purchased two types of marinated firefly squid for ¥2,200, which came in a small container. We found the price reasonable, considering the generous portions.

In the center of the market, there’s an area for visitors to eat meals after purchasing from the stores. It was very clean, and there were vending machines and a microwave available. We noticed a store that delivered an assortment of sushi to customers rather than making them wait in front of the store. We weren’t sure if this was standard practice, but we guessed it was possible due to the market's low crowd at the time.

Visitors are responsible for disposing of their trash and cleaning their tables in the dining area. The store owner informed us that crab shells should be returned to her, as they cannot be discarded in the rubbish bins in the dining area. It’s a good system they have in place.

Overall, we believe this market is worth visiting if you prefer a less touristy experience. Nearby, you can also find museums and excellent restaurants, and the views from the deck of the Kanazawa Port Cruise Terminal are quite...

Kanazawa Port Ikiiki Market is a small local seafood market where visitors can buy freshly caught seafood directly from local fishermen and wholesalers. It is often referred to as the “kitchen of Kanazawa citizens” and is frequented by both locals and tourists.

However, the market is very small and, overall, quite disappointing. There is only one restaurant on site, and it offers just a single set meal priced at 5,500 yen, with no other dining options available.

Opening hours: 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM Closed: Every Wednesday Parking: 100 spaces for...

Its a little far away if you dont want to use transport, i travelled by bicycled with machi-nori, the fish market and port were cool to see, there are other things to see around the area, the market itself was smaller and had less seafood on display than omicho market which is right near the station, go if you want to see the ocean and experience a closer feel to the fishing industry. This market allowed photographs where omicho does not. The man pictured offered samples of dried squid, raw shrimp and other pieces of sashimi, overall...
