Karuizawa is a quiet town, with stores and restaurants closing 'early' comparing to other towns. Dinner options have to be planned early, or you will be left with few options, especially on Wednesdays. This beautiful town is known for its Western restaurants, offering top notch French and Italian cuisines. If you are sticking with Japanese foods, not only choices are few, it's best to be driving as these eateries are spread out. Often travelers get 'lost' at Prince Outlets, and by the time they realized its closing time, they are stranded with no nearby restos. Reminder: Plan your dinners early!
This Izakaya is one of the few that opens till late, which is already a big plus. Its not far from the Hoshino complex, even after going to the Hoshino Onsen, you can still grab some hearty snacks and drinks.
There is a nice and warm fireplace right inside the store, which is a great fixture to sell more COLD Beer! We ordered their famous fried chicken, Udon on skillet, Deep Dish Tofu, as our late night dinner. Portions were fair for two people, and the Beer.... hmmm...
