黒猫豆花 — Restaurant in Kawasaki

This place’s douhua (Chinese bean curd dessert) and tea are pretty good, at least, even compared with most of those modern fashionable dessert cafés in Tokyo city centres. Though there’s a bit of alienated atmosphere as ambience, the calm staff was enough attentive when I visited there. Hope more of these kind of small independent tea/light meal places around my neighbourhood, or, everywhere.

The location is like a midway between Futakoshinchi and Takatsu, but if you were a good walker, it would be a nice holiday walk from Tama river down Ohyama-kaido Road, the edo-era pilgrimage. You may find small pre-modern reminders of it...

Deciding we needed some exercise before dinner, my wife and I went for a walk in Futakoshinchi area and stumbled upon this fabulous little Taiwanese restaurant that specializes in Douhua—a type of bean curd used in Taiwanese desserts. Now, the Douhua was good—bean curd covered in a light syrup topped with fruit, beans, boiled peanuts, etc.—but the pork bun and pork rice bowl are exceptional. 台湾人です。事前に調べて、期待を持ってこちらのお店を訪れました。 注文したのは「角煮丼」と「豆乳スープ」です。とても楽しみにしていたのですが、正直に言うと、これは台湾料理とは言えないと思います。

都内で日本人の方が経営する台湾料理店に行くこともありますし、そういったお店で提供される「日本人から見た台湾の味」も理解しています。たとえ本場の味とは違っていても、美味しければ良いと思えるのですが、こちらのお店の料理は、台湾料理かどうか以前に「美味しいかどうか」という点で疑問を感じました。

まず、角煮丼についてですが、台湾では角煮はとろけるほど柔らかく、白飯にはたっぷりと煮汁がかかっています。しかし、こちらの角煮は肉が硬く、ご飯の汁も少なかったです。肉も噛みごたえがありすぎて、正直食べるのに疲れました。

次に、豆乳スープ（鹹豆漿）ですが、店から自宅まで15分ほどの距離なのに、到着する頃には固まってしまい、豆乳とも豆腐とも言えないようなものに変わっていました。熱々の豆乳スープを飲みたかったのですが、そういった楽しみも叶いませんでした。

今回、2品頼んでみて、残念ながら満足感よりも「これで良いのかな…？」というモヤモヤが残りました。料理の提供方法やテイクアウト時の温度変化、容器の選び方など、全体的にもっと工夫が必要だと思います。

お店の方はとても感じが良く、応援したい気持ちはありますが、率直に言うと、今回いただいた料理は「台湾料理を知っている方が作った料理」というより、「台湾料理に興味を持って挑戦してみた方の料理」という印象です。

店主さん、これからも頑張ってください。より美味しいお料理が提供されることを願っています。
