I had a decent time here! I wouldn't go back of my own accord, but if a friend suggested we eat here, I wouldn't suggest we go somewhere else.
The pizzas are a good size for one person (a UK small for 550 yen, tax included) and good value for money. There was English on the menu, so despite speaking some Japanese, I felt more welcomed by the menu and pictures alone. Unfortunately, my garlic chorizo pizza was nice but lacked a rich flavour and that spice kick. However, the open-flame baking process was fun to admire, and reminded me of my time enjoying pizza in Florence, Italy.
I didn't appreciate the freezing cold red wine, though. As a former waitress, I understand that drinks like wine and liquor are chilled to preserve freshness, but it left condensation waterfalls - not streaks - on the glass as it adjusted to room temperature, obviously humid because of the open-flame oven. Upon heating it up in my hand, the wine itself was rich and to my taste. If I hadn't enjoyed that taste, I would have been annoyed that I hadn't saved that 550 for a discounted bottle at a supermarket.
Speaking of saving money, I received a fish starter upon being seated. I thought it was an odd but kind gesture, but I rejected it due to a seafood allergy. I was later given minced meat and aubergine before my pizza came out. After scanning the QR code, I saw that I was charged for that starter (お通し) despite not requesting it. I'll have to check to see if that clause is written on the menu, but to get charged 300 yen for a starter when the majority of the menu aka pizza and alcohol, is 500 yen, annoyed me, whether it tasted nice or not.
It was my first time there, so I wasn't sure of the system. I was given a QR code to order from, but I noticed the tables around me were ordering directly from staff, one man calling out izakaya-style and waving his empty jyokki in the air. I don't know if that was actually considered rude, or if drinks were ordered via staff and pizza was ordered online, but that uncertainty makes it hard to recommend this place to short-term foreigner visitors or tourists, as you may not have a SIM card, internet access, or Japanese knowledge (my online menu was entirely in Japanese though the menus on the table and on the website were in both languages.)
The staff that night, to me, seemed a little timid with me but friendly, and greeted people as we entered and exited. Payment was quick and easy, especially with PayPay. I got a big goodbye, which was a nice farewell.
Overall, I had a nice time but not a great time. However, I am a sucker for pizza and wine, so I'm...
