Mr Onoda is the grandfather I wish I had. With soothing jazz and a hot hand towel to having Fernet to digest our dinner, and a hot mulled wine that was absolutely delicious for our nightcap, the experience was so warm and inviting. It’s a bit hard to locate, so I’ve attached some pictures. Kanpai Mr Onoda! We can’t wait to come back to Japan and see you again, thank you!!

This is a bar, somewhat tricky to find, as it is located on the 1st floor of a building and the street-level signs were not that obvious. However, this hidden gem was definitely worth it, both for the atmosphere and the drinks. Mr Onoda, the elderly owner/bartender, even gifted us an orange from Hiroshima!

まず最初に申し上げておきますがウィスキー ラムなどの種類は倉敷でもトップクラスで、店内の雰囲気も完璧で文句の付けようはありません。 しかしながら、お酒の知識があまりない方や初めて行く方はひとりで行くことをお勧めしません。 こちらが何か珍しいお酒はありますかと問うと、「初めての方なのでお客さんがどの程度の知識を持ってるか分からないので珍しいお酒がどれに値するか分からない」や、何かおすすめありますかと問うと「見た通りですよ こちらはウィスキーのお店なので」○○系のリキュールありますかと問うと、「そんな珍しいもの置いてるバーの方が少ないんじゃないですか」など全否定する様な返しばかりでかなり腹立たしかったです。 お酒について聞いてる間は普通に話していましたが、店内に大きな桜の枝がありこちらがこれ本物だったんですね、てっきり造花かと思ってましたと言うと「わざわざこんな大きい造花は置きませんよお客さん」といつも一言多く終始腹立たしかった。 常連さんだけで良いのかなと言う印象。 受け答えの印象がかなり悪いイメージがあるので、黙って飲むor珍しいお酒を飲みたい人にはとてもお勧めだが、2人以上で行くことをお勧めする。

Fantastic little bar. If you’re out for a whisky, go here. Absolute mountain of whisky choices plus an old bottles menu if you’ve got the coin. Fellow running the bar is very lovely and attentive even with the large language barrier. Had a very lovely pre dinner drink here without...
