Yo, this joint on the first floor is all about that "Abura-soba", man.
The writer here thinks the "Ginger Abura-Soba" they dish out is hands down the tastiest mix soba they've ever had. You might be expecting just some shredded ginger on top, but nah, they're using ginger in the sauce too, so you'll be pleasantly surprised on your first bite, no doubt.Even if you've had a meh experience with Abura-soba before, this "Ginger Abura-soba" might just flip the script for you, ya know? Of course, their standard Abura-soba is solid too, but the writer's been hitting up that "Ginger Abura-soba" at like a 2:1 ratio, it's that good.
As for the sides, their fried chicken is a must-try. People are raving about these big, double-fried chicken pieces being the bomb in the ramen scene. Now, the menma, I personally prefer it with a bit more color and seasoning as a topping, but when you have it as a side, it's lightly seasoned in a Japanese style, and damn, it's tasty. They also drop some limited-time menu items every now and then, and trust me, they're off the charts delicious, but start with the classics that the owner cooks up with care, ya dig?
And yo, props to the owner for keeping everything clean, from the counter to the floor and sink. (Though it's kinda dim from the entrance to the door, haha.)
They run this place solo, and with those thick noodles, it takes a minute to cook, plus they don't have a ton of seats, so make sure you roll in with some extra time on your hands.
Some hardcore ramen heads might be skeptical about ditching the soup, but give the "Ginger Abura-soba" a shot, you might be...
Read moreEasily one of the best bowl of noodles I’ve had in Japan!! The noodle texture was just right and the broth was bursting with flavor. The chicken karaage was also super flavorful and juicy. It’s a very small space with only 6 counter seats (typical of Japan, though), and it’s a one-man restaurant, but he works very quickly. The background music is also quite tasteful and relaxing. 20/10 would recommend and definitely will come back next time...
Read moreIt was the first meal for us in Kyoto after check-in at Nijo hotel. Just a few steps from the hotel. The hidden soba place bring a peace atmosphere with good music, the owner also has a special vibe. The soba was so good by both noodle texture and chicken karaage. We had it along with 1 kirin beer and total worth it. If I had chance to come back to Kyoto, I will definitely visit and enjoy this soba among good...
