I used to love going to Colorado Café, but after the renewal, thereâs no longer a place to sit down and relax. The whole space now feels designed for foreign tourists or high schoolers, rather than people looking to take a quiet break. The layout is wide open, which takes away any sense of coziness or comfort.
Thereâs a tea âcaféâ set up in the middle, but the seating feels more like a stage than a place to unwind â itâs hard to imagine anyone wanting to sit there with people constantly walking past. And now thereâs a Starbucks too, with the usual tiny tables and minimal atmosphere. I was really hoping for a proper local coffee shop like Ogawa Coffee, but instead itâs all about creating spots that look good on Instagram.
I genuinely feel bad for the older local customers who used to enjoy relaxing at BiVi. Even the popular sushi restaurant has been made much smaller. It used to have lines when it was bigger, so itâs surprising they chose to downsize it. It makes me wonder whether the people behind the new BiVi really thought about who was actually using the space before?
On the positive side, the Showa Retro Street on the second floor is really well made and definitely worth a visit. Itâs nice to see a thoughtful tribute to the local history around Nijo.
Thereâs also quite a bit of free space up there, so hopefully, for the sake of the local community, theyâll consider opening a proper café. Somewhere quiet and welcoming, where people can enjoy a morning set meal and relax. It doesnât have to be trendy â just a comfortable spot that people actually want to spend time in. Please...

Read moreNice place to while away a few hours. A variety of eateries on the first floor, one floor filled with an arcade and another devoted to parking in case you drove there. And ofcourse, the highlight is a cinema on the top floor with the largest theatre being an IMAX screen. Took one star off the 4 stars I would have given it because the cinema has a limited offering of...
