BiVi Nijo — Local services in Kyoto

I used to love going to Colorado Café, but after the renewal, there’s no longer a place to sit down and relax. The whole space now feels designed for foreign tourists or high schoolers, rather than people looking to take a quiet break. The layout is wide open, which takes away any sense of coziness or comfort.

There’s a tea “café” set up in the middle, but the seating feels more like a stage than a place to unwind — it’s hard to imagine anyone wanting to sit there with people constantly walking past. And now there’s a Starbucks too, with the usual tiny tables and minimal atmosphere. I was really hoping for a proper local coffee shop like Ogawa Coffee, but instead it’s all about creating spots that look good on Instagram.

I genuinely feel bad for the older local customers who used to enjoy relaxing at BiVi. Even the popular sushi restaurant has been made much smaller. It used to have lines when it was bigger, so it’s surprising they chose to downsize it. It makes me wonder whether the people behind the new BiVi really thought about who was actually using the space before?

On the positive side, the Showa Retro Street on the second floor is really well made and definitely worth a visit. It’s nice to see a thoughtful tribute to the local history around Nijo.

There’s also quite a bit of free space up there, so hopefully, for the sake of the local community, they’ll consider opening a proper café. Somewhere quiet and welcoming, where people can enjoy a morning set meal and relax. It doesn’t have to be trendy — just a comfortable spot that people actually want to spend time in. Please...

2025年６月20日金曜日にリニューアルオープン決定。 その前々日には招待客限定で正午前から「内覧会」を開催。午前中から内覧会目的の長い行列が炎天下で発生。お疲れ様です。 [略歴] 1997(平成９)年の京都市営地下鉄東西線の開通に合わせて、JR二条駅西側周辺で再開発された新設ロータリーの南側にBiVi二条が2005(平成17)年に開業した。 BiVi二条が建つ前は、旧二条駅の改札口が東側の千本通だけある（1904(明治37)年に駅舎が出来た時は線路より西側は住宅が殆ど無く田畑が圧倒的に多かった）不便な交通事情（旧二条駅西側の住民が駅まで向かうには六軒町通を、北側は500m先の旧二条通へ、南側は300m先の三条通へ迂回する必要があり、今は東西が繋がってる上押小路通と姉小路通は線路で分断されて、やすらぎの道は当時の地上線路で通行不可能）もあって、旧国鉄の操車場跡に加えて材木業者の工場と材木置場を中心に自動車１台分だけ通れる狭い路地と古い住宅が立ち並ぶ寂れた地域だった。BiVi二条の南西にある路地に往時の名残を見られるが、既に整理消滅した狭い路地と比べて割と広めな幅なので残ったとも言える。

BiVi二条は建物３階に有料駐車場132台、建物周囲に自転車168台とオートバイ88台の有料駐輪場がある。 駐車場は営業時間が7:00～24:00、料金が平日は30分100円・土日祝は60分200円で、平日のみは最大料金が当日700円・夜間(24:00～9:00)400円。 駐輪場は24時間営業、自転車の料金が駐輪後６時間まで150円で以降３時間ごとに50円加算、オートバイの料金が駐輪後６時間まで300円で以降6時間ごとに200円加算される。自転車とオートバイどちらも最初の３時間まで無料で駐輪場を利用できる。 開業時の３階駐車場は映画館と連携して３時間まで無料のシステムがあったが、2015年頃に経営がTimesに代わってから連携無料が消滅した。 【2025年水無月追筆】 2024年９月から始まったリニューアル工事が延びて再オープン時期が６月下旬に決まった。５月初旬まで３階駐車場で「異世界神社」と銘打って土日祝限定のホラー脱出ゲーム形式のお化け屋敷を営業。料金は、大人1200円　学生1000円　子供800円。既に終了。 【2025年卯月加筆】 2025年春の創業20周年に合わせて、2024年９月から大規模改装工事が始まり、工事中はTOHOシネマズとローソンと有料駐車場と有料駐輪場のみが引き続き営業する。 建物の東側と西側の出入口が閉鎖され、出入りできるのは北側出入口と南側駐車場専用出入口だけ。 １階と２階は臨時の壁で遮られて中が見えず、北東のエレベーターと東側階段のみが利用できる。 工事中に休業するサードプラネット、大垣書店、カプリチョーザ、コリアンダイニング李朝園、auショップは翌年春リニューアル時の営業再開が決まってる。ケンタッキーフライドチキン、はなまるうどん、HAIR’S...
