Thisis hands down the best tonkatsu I’ve ever had and it’s not even close. I’ve been to quite a few including a Michelin rated ones like Karasemitei (bib gourmand) and although those are good, this one, in my opinion is so much better. I mean the flavour is just fantastic.
As far as pork goes it is on the pricier side but the portion you get is massive and the quality is just unbeatable. It’s the third time I’ve been, I’ve had to wait each time for 30 minutes ish and I recommend anyone there to put their names down with the lovely waitress and go to the cake shop nearby (étoile filante - 7 minutes walk away) to get some chocolates or cakes while waiting - buy them first and have them after the meal.
I’ve tried the super premium and the premium one, my personal preference is the super premium one. The smooth flavour and umami is just unbeatable although if you prefer a stronger pork taste and leaner cut then you can go for the other one. The miso soup is also really good, sweetness from the vegetable and round flavour from the pork really cuts through.
I don’t speak Japanese and they don’t speak English but I got on just fine. There are photos and the super premium one is on the third page ish. Just show the numbers with your fingers (of how many you guys want).
Ps: the soy sauce is...
Read moreWow! An exceptional experience and meal. This is our first time visiting Japan and we quickly learned that you need to arrive at restaurants 40 minutes to an hour before closing or you may be too late for service. We arrived just 30 minutes before we closing and the hostess let us put our names down and told us it would be a 30 minute wait. Surprisingly we were seated after the actual closing time and not rushed in the slightest during our meal. The Tonkatsu was Devine. They have several selections of premium and aged pork to choose from and this was hands down the best Tonkatsu I have ever eaten. It feels wrong to compare since this was on a different level. The price was maybe higher than you would want to spend on a day to day basis but very reasonable considering the quality of the ingredients and the size of the hardy meal. I will be...
Read moreThe tonkatsu was outstanding. There were different grades of pork from which to choose, I selected the highest most marbled grade. The tenderness of the meat was akin to filet. The marbling added depth and melted each bite, and the texture contrasted perfectly with the crisp of the fried light flakiness of the breading. It was served with a spicy mustard, a special soy sauce, large crystal salt flakes, a sweet sauce and a spicy sauce, and all were delicious. Worth the hour wait. We were the only non Japanese people in the restaurant, and they were patient and welcoming - no English menu, used the phone...
