I made reservation to have lunch on the river but it was pouring the day we went so we had to eat inside. It was disappointing since I planned to go all the way to Kibune just for this experience. But nothing can be done about weather so I was fine with it. The meal was fine, nothing out of the ordinary. And to be honest, it was too expensive when the ambiance of the river was taken away from the experience. After we finished lunch the rain stopped and we were offered to go down to the river to take some photos, which was fine. We were on our way to the shrine but I decided I really want to experience dinning/drinking on top of the river and that other restaurants/cafes have started serving customers outdoors (on the river) again. As such, we decided to walk back this restaurant to see if we can have a drink outside. I don't know if it was miscommunication or what but we were turned away rather harshly by the older lady basically saying that we need to purchase another meal again to be able to sit outdoor. We tried to explain we just had lunch there moments ago but she shooed us away. It was pretty annoying when we literally spent over 15,000 yen to have lunch there and we were even allowed to have a drink (which we planned to pay for) on their river terrace, which was pretty empty. I was astonished by what happened and decided to go down the street and took our...
Read moreMy husband and I were walking down the road when we were approached by one of the employees. She tried her absolute best to explain the menu to us in English and for that I will be forever grateful. She was extremely sweet so of course we went down to the water area and had some lunch. We had the recommended lunch set for 7150 per person. It was the perfect amount of refreshing food and on an extremely hot day. The staff was so kind as they explained how to eat certain things to us as we were unfamiliar with some foods. I love restaurants that take pride in their local culture and cuisine and try to share with the world. We feel so lucky and grateful that they were kind and patient enough to work with us. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. Good food, extremely kind staff, and a beautiful...
Read morei wish i could give them more than 5 stars for the service and foods! it was such a great experience and memories!
no english menu but at the time we went there, there was only 2 menus : tofu set and shabu-shabu. Both were superb, but, if i need to choose only one then it will be the tofu. so soft and full of flavour given the fact that it was just boiled tofu eaten with soysauce!
even though all of the staffs didnt speak english, but they were very friendly, kind, and helpful. the ambience also great; clean, beautiful, and homey japanese style room with tatami.
when we were there on april 18th, they just started to build the outdoor terraces right on the river! they told us to come and visit them again during summer starting this may, so, if you are planning to visit Kyoto on summer, then you...
