Bocchan — Restaurant in Matsuyama

A truly Japanese experience interacting with the local diners! We went first and there were no seats, we checked again after 10mins and the local made space for us on the counter seats (-7 diners maximum). We were served a homecooked dish of the day, side dish, miso soup and unlimited amount of rice and tea for 500¥!! Grandma owner passes the food directly to us as she dishes them out and it feels like eating at home, the other regulars help to pass us the beers from the fridge and chatted with us through our translation app. 😂😂 One regular started karaoke and when they learnt it was my birthday, they gifted me with their instant noodles and coffee jellies 😄 Grandma owner also gave me a small purse with a coin for birthday and also a keychain. Based on the reviews I was expecting a great atmosphere, kind service and great home cooked food. I was served with 2 of the 3.

Obviously not being a local I'm going to be part of the conversation, but the atmosphere felt fun, enlightened and comfortable. The service was quick and kind but no guidance in what we had to order or ask for.

We were served with sub-par quality food, tasteless noodles and vegetables soup, side of tomato spaghetti and green lettuce with light salad dressing. Sure the cost wasn't too high but the food was super bland.

道後のお母ちゃんの店　ここに有り！ 道後のメインストリートから路地に入った　隠れた名店　そこは観光地に有りながら　昭和にタイムスリップさせられます　昭和レトロな映えのするカフェなどではなくノスタルジー　当時のままです　週末の昼などにたまに伺いますが　1番奥で昼からチビチビ飲む常連さん　人力車の車夫さんたち　地元みん　観光客いろいろいますが　みな一見さんウェルカム

店はカウンターのみの居酒屋ですが昼ご飯人気です　覗いていっぱいなら一声かけて外で待ちましょう 席に着くなり　（ご飯いる？）と母ちゃんに聞かれるからお願いします ここの店にメニューなんて有りません　全てはお母ちゃんの気の向くまま　常連さんは母ちゃんのヘルプで新しい客にドレッシングやお茶を回します 潔癖症の方には難しいお店ですが　お袋の店　田舎の婆ちゃん家　って言うとわかるかな？ 口の悪い母ちゃん　でも優しいんです　ワンコインでお腹いっぱい食べさせてくれるんです　麦茶はペットボトルに入れて自家製　沢庵もタッパーのまま好きなだけ　食後のコーヒーは冬などは（あったかいのがええか？つめたいの？）暖かくなれば（冷たいのでええやろ！）勝手に飲み！ おかずは手の込んだ物なんて出ませんよ　ほんとに家庭で出てくるような　普通の食卓　客みんなが食卓囲って家族みたいに同じものたべるんです　おかずはメインと煮物系　たっぷりな味噌汁　ご飯は多め　初めての方はご飯の量に注意ですよ　お支払いは昭和のままの消費税無しの500円のみ 千円札だして　母ちゃんお釣りちょうだい って言うと5万でええか？　そんなに要らん500円でいいで　って言う今どきなくなってしまったそんなやり取りもここでは当たり前 本当の道後レトロを体験したいならおすすめです カッコつけない店　それがカッコイイ 親戚の集まりみたいな客と母ちゃんに癒されに行ってます 残した客には（汚い食べ方！）挨拶出来る客には（エエ子やね〜） 80過ぎのお母ちゃんが元気で居る限りこちらが元気もらいに店に帰って来ます　行ける時には寄らせてもらいますね お母ちゃんの機嫌損なわせない方がいいですよ　笑
