Went on May 13, 2024 Amazing experience! Would definitely go back. Staff was friendly and informative on helping us with the language barrier using translators. Very affordable for a private onsen. Modern, nice for groups to go if you have a family trip (mixed genders) since they allow you to wear a robe “ Yuchō “ pictured in pink in the water. After you put on the white patterned robe. It was very hard to find a tattoo friendly onsen (I don’t have one myself but a friend in my group had one, gladly this onsen allowed them!) They also allow reservations and we got in right away and we were glad we reserved as they had a fully booked sign for private room for the full day when we arrived. ¥1690 per person plus ¥2040 yen for the private onsen. (¥2200 yen per person then = only like 15 USD!) We were able to stay 90 minutes. You cannot bathe in the private onsen, after you can get shampoo and conditioner in the downstairs bathing room when you are done. When we went down to the public bath you are not supposed to wear the yuchō, but we had the space pretty much to ourselves and the rooms are separated by genders for finishing our bath, there’s also an open air bath too! Relaxing spa experience. Tea sweets were great!

Welcome to the ancient Dogo. The welcoming sculpture with calligraphy 水流香 smiling in the entrance hall emphasised the history in of this hot spring. As the background of this entrance, there is a large 3D painting the symbol of Dogo onsen (yudama) with wakugi nails (the nails that last thousands of year) that stunning your eyes, this is the big symbol of yudama (symbol of Dogo onsen) with traditional wakugi nails (the nails that last thousands of year). There is also the zeolite washi paper (ゼオライト和紙) completely build the warm atmosphere of this entrance. All these things not only warm your heart but just like time machine take you in the oldest Dogo. You can healing your body in the exclusive special bathing room with the hot water and the beautiful ceiling with the paintings. It is said that this room is the replica of the Yushinden ( Dōgo Onsen Honkan’s bathing room for the imperial family). In 2nd floor, you can find private resting room with the corridor from the wood. The wood smelling mixed with the old Japanese interior, and some how make you feels like you in the past of dougo era.

I came to this place because the Dogo Onsen Main Building had a 3 hour wait time. I was very happy I came to this Dogo Onsen Annex because it was a very new building with beautiful decorations and there was no wait time. When I entered the building on my right there are lockers for shoes. Regular charge for using the bath only is 610 yen. I went with the 2nd floor large resting hall package (1,280 yen) which included 1st floor bathing room + 2nd floor large resting hall with free tea and Japanese sweets and yukata included in the package. Towel rental was extra for 50 yen (small towel) or 200 yen (large towel). After paying the admission fee, I went up to the 2nd floor where the friendly staff explained the process and gave me a yukata. There are changing rooms on the 2nd floor. Then I went down to the baths on the 1st floor. There was a big indoor bath and a small outdoor bath. After the bath, I went back up to the 2nd floor and enjoyed Japanese sweets and tea and a nice view. You can get free refills of tea. Overall, fantastic experience.

Visited by Dogo Onsen Annex as the original Dogo Onsen up the road was under renovation (Aug 2023) and while the original baths were still open there were limited facilities available there and long queues. The Annex is a newer building, but has been very well done in a traditional Japanese style. 1280 yen for the bathing, yukata rental and after bathing tea package. Staff were very helpful in explaining the process in English. The baths are nice but there are only two of them and they're not that big - one indoor and one in an 'outdoor' roofed area (unable to see out). The after tea service was very nice, with a sweet provided and tea refills from very friendly staff.

The Mog Champ sends his regards. Asuka-no-Yu is the onsen I went to when I was in the area and really wanted to experience one of the popular onsens of the district. The original Dogo Onsen looked nice too however it was both old and crowded. This one looks a bit more modern on both the outside and the inside! The entrance price was a little premium but the experience was fine and clean! It wasn't too busy either which was peaceful. For those who want an onsen experience, I'd recommend this one. Thank you for the experience Asuka-no-Yu, I hope lots of customers are satisfied by the service you provide! Mogliest Regards, Your Mog Champ

Before even getting to the Annex, there is a Karakuri clock nearby to has a special feature when it reaches the top of the hour. Then you walk through and indoor shopping street where you finally reach the building. Because it is so popular, you will need to register your group to get a time slot. I recommend getting the package that includes the bath and a serving of Japanese sweets and tea. The bath itself is very nice, like any other onsen. The sweets and tea was delicious and I was able to enjoy it outside on the balcony. Definitely would recommend.
