PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT!! If you come from the same part of the world where I am from and have the expectation that if there is a F&B joint with fishes in tank, u can point to the one you wanna eat and you can have them. This place will disappoint you. I am not very rich so I pointed to a small Tuna (can't afford the fancy whale shark or manta rays) but was firmly told "No".. I was initially disappointed, but somewhat glad after I tasted the food this place offers. I ordered a cake and it was too sweet and so was the hot cocoa.. the other drink we ordered was coffee and it was too bitter, so the quality of food is quite poor. I am glad they refused my offer to kill the tuna; the tuna would be wasted in the hands of their cooks that produce 1 star food. However you do not come here for the food or service, you are here for the fishes.. I can't give the ambience more than 5 stars.. but this place dials the ambience up to such extremes it can average the total to a 4 stars in my eyes despite the poor food. Check out the videos I posted to see for yourself.

The Cafe Ocean Blue is located right by the main tank inside the Churaumi Aquarium. It gives an impressive view of the sea life while you enjoy some food including a few main course options, cakes, drinks - coffee/soda, and desserts. The food was surprisingly reasonably priced and decent. We got the seafood curry with soda (whale shark shaped blue rice with blue sauce), calzone pizza with soda, and soda flavor soft serve (blue soft serve) which cost us $23usd. Make sure to grab a ticket to get in line, extra cost applies to tables right next to the windows (500jpy). We waited about 20 mins on a Tuesday around noon in the middle of summer for a non-window seat.

We paid the extra 500 yen for reserved window seats. We did wait a good hour plus until seated for these seats. The reserved window seats are allotted 40 minutes whereas the unreserved seats (less wait time) are allotted 60 minutes for seated time. I loved the view from our paid seats, however, the tables behind us, got pretty much the same view without paying, and could sit 20 minutes longer to enjoy the views. The food was OK. We ordered the fish and chips (tough fish, stale chips) and the squid ink pasta (it's food court quality, but much better than the fish and chips). Also had the lemon tart, which was very flavorful. All in all, it was a been there done that experience. If I were to visit the cafe again, I would do the unreserved seating, and probably do coffee and dessert while enjoying the view. 3 stars simply for the value, quality of food, and our wait time. The window seating is a 4 -5 star, because it was so relaxing being that close to the sea animals and watching them swim in circles.

5 stars for the view: You can enjoy eating while viewing the big tank. Food 2 stars: Fish and chips did not seem freshly cooked as it felt tough, but maybe their other foods are better. Dessert 4 stars: Ice cream (pineapple soft serve) was really good and affordable though. Value for money 3 stars: Seating time is limited to about 40 minutes per group and there is quite a line before you are able to sit (we waited about 15 minutes, which is okay but on busier days you might have to wait more). There is also an additional 500 yen payment if you choose to sit by the glass tank for a better view. The other seats farther behind are not charged. Blue ocean Curry looked cute with the but is probably too expensive at 1600 yen. Service 2 stars: Instead of being able to enjoy the view, you have to line up and wait for your order as they are not served on the table which is why I subtracted a few stars.

This cafe is nested inside the aquarium facing the big tank holding the Whale Shark. Food choice is limited, a bit costly and does really taste good. You can choose to spend 500 JPY for a seat beside the tank for 45mins or spend zero on seat selection with 60mins limit. Food to be purchased separately. You will have a good close up view of the tank and its popular Whale Shark. Caught a video of the Whale Shark drinking water. For the view, it is worth spending the time and money having lunch there.

If you are planning on eating something here I highly recommend you try this cafe! You can eat by the aquarium although the seats by the tank costs an extra 500 yen for 40 mins it is worth it. The food is quite pricey for what they are but for once a lifetime thing I think its OK. You have to order at the counter after you get your table which was I didn't like because your timer already started. I was lucky enough to see the whale shark and manta ray getting fed while feeding myself.
