I had the pleasure of eating at Callejera (take-out) and would like to share my experience.
I’ve been living in Japan for three years, and one of the foods I miss most is a good burrito. With no shame, I’ll admit I love a fully loaded, flavor-exploding, world-imploding tortilla stuffed with delectable flavor nuggets worthy of the Mayan gods themselves. When I stumbled across this spunky little restaurant just a few minutes’ walk from Kanayama Station, I knew I wouldn’t be disappointed.
The lines were short, and the food was hot. I ordered the Mission Burrito, as well as pork, chicken, beef, and fish tacos. The fresh pico and pickled red onions on the tacos were mucho bueno, and the “Mission” Burrito felt more like Mission Impossible (this restaurant and all participants in this review are in no way affiliated with the Mission Impossible film series. No animals were harmed in the writing of this review). The burrito included traditional Cali-Mex toppings along with shimeji mushrooms, which added a wonderful, juicy twist.
In short, the food was great, the restaurant’s location was prime, and the vibe and atmosphere were dynamite.
It doesn’t seem like beans are an available burrito topping, but there are plenty of other fresh ingredients that make it a delicious experience for...
Read moreThe positive reviews are very misleading. They either have no taste, are related to the owners (friends or family), paid reviews, or experienced a competent chef.
Arguably the worst Mexican restaurant I have ever been to, delivering by far the absolute worst burrito experience of my life. The only positive experience is that the staff were not completely hostile and tried to be friendly around when I left, and the food was edible despite the taste. It was packed with bland vegetables stuffed into a wrap, with barely any trace of meat. I paid extra for sour cream and jalapeños, yet there was almost nothing inside. What I disliked the most was that they force you to buy an overpriced drink just to place an order an exploitative policy that exists because of how bad the food is. The drink itself was just hardly a drop serverd poorly (as seen in photo), that was 800 yen. The tables were sticky and filthy, the whole place reeked of neglect, and it was swarming with mosquitoes.
Overall terrible food, terrible value, terrible environment (music is louder than any possible conversations). Would not recommend unless they can...
Read moreupdated - May, 2025 Well, the space itself is still cool, but ownership and management has changed. Now everything is more expensive, portions are smaller, and the quality isn't as good as it was under the original owners. What a shame. I used to love this place. Hopefully the new owners are just still figuring things out and will make some improvements. The mango lassi gelato float was nice, but the burritos were pretty disappointing.
Original review (under previous ownership) Very cool spot with interesting staff, nice events, tasty food, and a good selection of craft beers. It's not cheap, but you pay for the quality and...
