Today, after a long day of fasting for my health checkup in Nagoya, I decided to treat myself to a royal Sri Lankan meal. I searched for a place near Nagoya Station and found Ceylon Mom Restaurant & Bar - セイロン マム レストラン & バー, just a 10-minute walk from the station. Although the entrance was a bit tricky to find (Google Maps shows the front of the building, so just go around to locate the entrance), it was well worth it.
Upon arrival, I was greeted with a warm welcome in a cozy, inviting atmosphere. The menu was impressive, featuring a wide variety of authentic Sri Lankan dishes. I was drawn to the traditional Kehel Kole Bath, a rice and curry dish wrapped in banana leaf, and the rice and curry set. I opted for the rice and curry, which came with nine different curries, rice, and crispy papadam. The flavors were heavenly, with just the right amount of spice—an absolute feast fit for a king.
For those on the go, they also offer convenient takeout options, making it easy to enjoy these amazing flavors wherever you are. It was the perfect meal to...
Read moreI don't usually write negative reviews but my experience here did not come close to the glowing reviews provided from others. I had the yellow rice and while the rice was fine, the "chicken curry" was overcooked and essentially a single chicken thigh chopped into pieces. A strange greenish colour and not a curry by any stretch as it lacked gravy.
My wife had the chicken Biryani and for the cost it was a bit of a joke. Overcooked chicken which had a sweet type of BBQ sauce on it, not coming anywhere close to the picture on the menu. The boiled egg was massively overcooked and clearly had a grey center.
What was most odd was the bizarre amount of ketchup on the plate. Ketchup in a side dish, on the egg, on the cucumbers, the red onions. I scraped it off of everywhere. This place is the classic trap of the 4.9 score with hundreds of reviews. Try something else, you're in...
Read moreI’ve never had Sri Lankan food, let alone, home cooked. However, if I did, I would imagine it is much like this. I had the nasi goreng with chicken. (I am not sure if this one is a variant of the original Indonesian dish). The rice had a nice texture, the veggies were fresh, the chicken was nicely cooked and it had flavor for days! It came with cucumbers and tomatoes. Also, some chili sauce and ketchup. As for that ketchup, I’ve read that ketchup in South Asian fried rice is a normal thing. I had my doubts and tried it anyway. I am sold!
The owners were friendly and welcoming.
I would love to come back and try everything on the menu. This place has my highest...
