Kashiwaya Café — Restaurant in Nakanojo

2023 update on the review in 2022 below. We're back in Shima Onsen and we had to come back to our favourite coffee place. This time we decided to order food - mini baguette sandwich with ham and cheese with salad, french fries and pickles. I didn't have the ham but Noriko did! The food was really, really delicious! The baguette was perfect, crispy on the outside and soft inside. The homemade french fries were fantastic. They were light and crispy and covered in a herb salt. The salad was also delicious with a light orange dressing which tried hard to identify what it was made of but we just couldn't. We decided it's better just to enjoy every mouthful. To finish off we decided to share the chocolate cake. I had English Breakfast Tea and Noriko ordered the Shima Onsen Blue Beer. Yes, Blue Beer! Everything was perfect. Even though we were full up after the main meal we had to order the chocolate cake. Amazing. If you come to Shima Onsen then definitely visit this place.

A great place for late morning coffee, lunch, or a late afternoon beer.

The home made sweets are delicious and go great with their "onsen mark cappuccino". Lunch is delicious, but they have a limited amount so get there before 14:30 to be on the safe side. Their menu is diverse selection of "new Japanese cafe food" consisting of curry, pasta, rice bowls along with a daily special.

Be aware that the cafe is non-smoking between the hours of 11:00-15:00.

I highly recommend having a late afternoon glass of wine or beer at the upstairs bar. The seating faces a window looking out across the river.

Such a lovely cafe. The interior gives a cozy and warm ambiance. Loved the counterseats so much. Reminds me of a book I read before. Great service from the staff too. I ordered the Italian Ramen (Spicy Seafood Soup Spaghetti) & Shima Blue Soda. Both were delicious. Loved the vibrant blue color of the soda and it was refreshing to drink.
