Shima Yamaguchikan — Hotel in Nakanojo

I recently stayed in the Yamaguchi-Kan Ryokan with my girlfriend for an overnight escape from Tokyo city. On Arrival we were greeted at the bus and escorted inside for check in. After removing our shoes and checking in we were presented with a welcome drink, explained the details of the various onsens (In Japanese) and then shown to our room. The customer service was outstanding and i felt very welcome. ||||The entire inside of the ryokan hes being designed to look like a traditional Japanese edo street, with roofs overhanging, stores, and lanterns, It looked great inside. ||||The onsens were the cleanest i have ever bathed in in Japan, crystal clear water and not one piece of dirt or hair to be found floating around. They empty the onsens, clean and refill them daily. The view from the onsen was amazing, soaking in the hotspring water by the running river and waterfall was so peaceful. ||||Our dinner and breakfarst were great, they even catered for me substituting my sashimi with beef. For Dinner we had a steak set that was presented with a number of other dishes including udon and steamed samon that was cooked at the table. ||||After dinner we went to see the free show offered, here i got to see traditional japanese story telling, Dancing, Drumming and singing. A great free show for a look into traditional culture. Overall i would definitely recommend this ryokan for an escape from the city and a stay in a traditional Japanese...

Nice location along the river, the onsen offered peaceful setting, enjoyed our evening stroll through the community. Meals were good and plentiful. It was a nice property but not stuffy or over the top luxurious. Staff were excellent and helpful. The room had a very nice layout with lots of room, nice sitting area, nice balcony overlooking the river. An evening walk up the valley to visit the rest of the onsen town is a must, especially for Miyazaki fans. Everyone should experience a ryokan stay. It did not appear that they cater to overseas visitors which was great for felling like you were getting an authentic experience. ||||The customs and rituals that go with a ryokan stay are not intuitive for an overseas traveler, but really should not be missed. It is one of the top experiences when in Japan. We are glad our son was along to explain things to us, it took a lot of the worry out...

It is located right next to the river, in the middle of the mountain. We got a room facing to the river and hill, and it was so beautiful. The service and staff were good. The outdoor bath was facing to the river, and it offered a beautiful scenery while you are soaking in onsen. The temperature of bath inside and next to it was lukewarm, and not so many people were using it. We didn't have a meal plan with Yamaguchikan, but there are some good restaurants available if you go to the public parking area. It seems like many restaurants are closed on Wednesdays and Thursdays, so you may want to check what's open before you head out there. For parking, it is a valet parking. You drive in, and they will park it for you. We told them that we will be using our car for dinner, so it was parked by the street for easy access. Overall, highly...
