I visited Nara for three days on holiday and happened across Takeshi-san's Bar Pippin, and visited it twice in a row. I'm a big mixology fan, and I have to say that Bar Pippin has excellent bartending, attention to detail, and atmosphere. I ordered my favourite drinks - the Last Word, and the Corpse Reviver #2, and Takeshi-san provided some my of favourite expressions of the cocktails, with his own unique twist. Excellent bartending aside, Bar Pippin has one of the coziest atmospheres I've ever been in, and I'd say it's a great way to experience Japanese bar culture. You're greeted with a hot towel, and an extensive collection of jazz records on vinyl, consistently selected to fit the mood as the night goes by. I truly recommend a visit to Bar Pippin.

The bartender was not very chatty- but maybe because he doesn’t speak English well. He was playing Nat King Cole and it really set the mood of the bar.
