Sacchan — Restaurant in Nikko

So my self and my partner and our best friend are from Australia travelling around Japan for 28 days we are currently half way through nearly on day 14 and we stopped here on our way through out of sheer curiosity, and oh my goodness by far the best place we have been to, in term of food, the environment, people, the vibe everything, was so welcoming and perfect, we do not know much Japanese at all on very very basic, they supplied us with and English menu, tried our hardest to converse with the lovely couple who owns the place, but it was pretty good in terms of communication, either way so friendly and after we paid they gave us the yummiest wafer, chocolate icecream to take with us, 10/10 so...

To all foreigners visiting Nikko, I highly recommend trying out these charming small restaurants run by wonderful elderly couple. The menu may be simple, but the experience is incredibly satisfying—not a 5-star restaurant, but easily a 6-star based on my recent visit with my family.

Since tipping isn't part of Japanese tradition, I wanted to share this honest review as my way of expressing gratitude. Dining here felt like enjoying the best home-cooked meal from a loving grandmother. When we return to Nikko, we’ll definitely be back.

Short walk from Hotel Sunshine Kinugawa. The place is run by an elderly couple. They were so lovely and sweet. Loved the old school vibes. Loved the plum wine. Enjoyed all the dishes we ordered. Ordered the potato butter which is basically a potato bake, deep fried yam with seaweed (loved the texture), meat tofu, and chicken skin stamina grill. Not many seats so could get busy really quickly. My brother and I showed up not long after they opened. Owners knew a little English but used translation app on their mobiles to help them.
