I suppose it should be expected from such a popular and highly rated dessert shop. We visited during Golden Week, so I’m sure it was even busier than usual, but the wait was almost an hour long. When you arrive, go around to the back and take a numbered notepad and write your order on it, then go to the register and pay. Depending on your number will determine when you receive your shaved ice. There was a waiting area by the register and when it was a certain group’s turn, for example numbers 40-50, you walk up to the front and wait to receive your dessert. I tried the unshu mikan (Satsuma Mandarin) and others in our group tried the caramel milk and melon melon. They were all delicious in different ways! Mine was refreshing, the caramel milk was decadent, and the melon was sweet. I think if I went back, I'd like to try a sweeter flavor!

A great little stop off between trains on the way back down from Nikko, this is one of the few remaining ice houses in Japan and serves great shaved ice. You order at one end of the building, walk round the the other side and wait to collect, then walk back round to the seating area! The staff taking orders don’t speak much English but thank you to one of the guys inside who kindly helped us out! The menu does have small English descriptions which is the main thing. We tried the strawberry, lemon and pistachio (which was our favourite) all great in the summer heat! Very well recommend detour!

I had the popular premium strawberry kakigori. I must say that the kakigori is very flavourful and mildly sweet. The jam is made from real strawberry. No chunks or deco strawberries though which I wish the include as it is called premium 😄. Anyway, no queue for me and I had the whole shop all to myself 😁 can't complaint.
