Together with a friend, I embarked on Mikey’s and Gypsy’s ultimate road bike tour of Japan: 25 days in May of 100 kms cycling every day. This tour is absolutely fantastic, on all levels! I have cycled in many places in Europe and North America, but Mikey’s and Gyspy’s ultimate Japan tour goes far beyond anything else that I have experienced before. First, Mikey has done an amazing job at preparing and finding the best roads across the country: the best mountain passes, the breathtaking ocean views, national parks, rice fields, green tea fields, waterfalls, etc. Mikey is riding with the group all the time, adapting the speed to the group needs. The tour is so well thought through and organized that car transfers take place to skip less interesting parts and only concentrates on the very best over close to 2500 kms! The tour includes two night long ferry transfers (in luxury private cabin) to go to more remote islands. Mikey has done over 300,000 kms of biking in Japan alone, you can’t find anyone better to know the good spots. A support car is there all the time to provide all needed nutrition, repair, and carry the luggage. The bike technician on the tour was also top notch, being always super helpful and even cleaning our bikes every day! The hotels that Mikey and Gypsy selected were always the very best in the area, nicely blending Japanese and Western type of luxury accommodation. Restaurants were also the very best, making this tour also an ultimate gastronomy one! Mikey has in depth cultural knowledge of the country, leading us to visit shrines and other wonders. Mikey is also a great photographer and cameraman while on his bike (a very rare skill!), and Gypsy shoots all the nice biking scenes from the support car. I brought back home hundreds of perfect pictures and videos. Cherry on the cake: Mikey and Gypsy are among the nicest persons I have met in my life, caring for any of our needs and wishes. There is not one single aspect that was not absolutely perfect on this tour, I wholeheartedly recommend it to any road...
Read moreI bumped into this café by coincidence and I had the greatest surprise on my Japan trip. This café is actually a bicycle rider's place but even though I don't ride, I could enjoy a great moment, with beautiful and welcoming people. The food is excellent, it's totally gypsy style but it's on the name so you don't get caught by surprise. Special tribute to Glen, the host and her delicious BBQ. Please post...
