I've been putting off writing this review because I couldn't figure out how to word it. The main phrase that comes to mind is "new yet familiar".
We found this pizza place on Google Maps with a high star rating. The reviews looked promising so we gave it a try.
You'll find this bar/restaurant nestled on a quaint street, and you're greeted by a friendly owner (who will also be your chef, bartender, and host for the night).
We used Google Lens to read the menu and select the items. After picking our food, the owner made some small talk with us via my broken Japanese, his bit of English, and, mostly, Google Translate. 😄
We ate here twice! One for our first night in Osaka and the second for our last meal in Japan. For the first time, we got squid ink pizza and pork topped off with prosciutto (the owner surprises us with chocolate ice cream 🙏❤️). For the second time, we ordered oysters for our appetizer and the other 3 pizzas on the menu: salami, margherita, and anchovies.
The food is unfathomably delicious! He's made something as simple as pizza into an exquisite dish with varying textures and flavors balancing each other out. As someone who hates tomatoes (i.e. gags and spits it out usually), the sauce was created perfectly and my personal favorite was the margherita pizza.
The pizza's dough is inexplicably good! It's a slightly thicker than a New York thin crust pizza BUT maintains the stretch of good dough with every bite. The crust is crisp and has a good bite to it. When you chew off a piece of it, the crust begins to slowly rise back up to its original height.
It's hands down the best pizza my husband and I have ever had (even after we've had pizza from Chicago, New York, and many other places in America). We still rave about this place and recommend it to all of our friends despite living on the other side of the world. We could go on and describe each one but we strongly encourage you try the restaurant out for yourself and be pleasantly surprised by the whole experience!
From the food to the friendliness of the owner, we felt like we found a piece of home in a different country. Now that we're back home, we felt like a part of our home is still there...
Read moreWe visited the restaurant on a Sunday evening after TeamLabs, and we were so glad we came! The food is some of the best we’ve had during our trip to japan, and this is arguably the best pizza I’ve ever had. We had a margarita pizza, a bacon and dried tomato pizza, and minced chicken spaghetti.
The restaurant is a small but cozy dining area, and the customer service was excellent. We had trouble translating the menu into english but the owner, who was also the chef and bartender, was happy to explain the menu to us and help us decide what we wanted. Even though we had a language barrier, he created a very welcoming environment and still managed to have conversations with us using his translator app. The place is definitely a hidden gem, would...
Read moreI was looking for Italian food around Nishitanabe. Equi came up, especially for their pizzas. I decided to give it a try!
The owner was very kind, he even gave me a surprise appetizer of salami with kaki (japanese persimmon). The taste was very good. The pizza was smaller than the sizes I'm used to in Europe, so if you're hungry, be sure to order two.
I had the chorizo pizza, and the dough was especially excellent. It's the best pizza I've had so far in...
