Ramble — Restaurant in Saiki

Tucked away in a nondescript side street just off Saiki's thoroughfare, this little coffee place is very easy to miss unless you are accompanied by a knowledgeable local. You can't help but wonder how many residents of this little town walk past this place every day and never notice. On the inside it looks and feels like somebody has painstakingly recreated an old European café. The only reminder that you're still in Japan are the owners and the patrons -- mostly old folks who seem to come here often to sip some coffee while reading a paper or having a leisurely chat. Cafe at hidden place in Saiki city. It's famous between local people, not a big touristic place but if you want to feel like a local person, you will be very welcomed and the owner is very kind and has a great sense of humor. Each of coffee has of course a great taste. The atmosphere is just like in the world of studio Ghibli. 春に友達と行った。友達はカフェオレを注文した。オープンキッチンなので珈琲を入れ温めたミルクを注ぐのが見えた。クラッシックで落ち着いた雰囲気の中でカフェオレを飲み干す。「今まで飲んだカフェオレの中で一番美味しい‼」

数年前のある日養賢寺の近くでカメラマンの女性に会った。「写真撮影は時間が掛かるから大分市からひとりで来たの。」と言われた。前から気になっていたのだけど「ランブル」という喫茶店の場所を教えていただけない？二つ返事で快諾した。ちょっと複雑な道を歩くと蔵屋敷を改築した「ランブル」に辿り着いた。二人で談話しながら香り高い珈琲を口に含む。暫し時が流れ彼女はご馳走してくださった。

実は二十歳の頃から通っている。友達と数人で行き、2階に座らせていただいた。グランドピアノがある広いフロアで注文した飲み物は釣瓶のようなもので届いた。もう40年以上になる。

「ランブル」はマダム？が大学生の時にアルバイトされておられた銀座「ランブル」と同名だそうだ。その証は同じ灰皿。 どこかで読んだ記事だがマスターが珈琲豆を選別されているのは安い豆を仕入れリーズナブルに提供する為になさっているとのこと。
