Hi. Long time vegan here...
In my experience, and on average, vegan sweets in Japan are pretty terrible. However, the creations at La Maison Rose were quite spectacular! Thank you so much!
I went for the first time a couple weeks ago...There was only one problem... even though I got one of everything, I didn't buy enough! I ate them all and wanted more! (lol)
Very specifically:
The bagel was a bagel! Nice and chewy, not bagel shaped bread!!!
The pumpkin cake had a beautiful balance of sweetness and spices, and the seeds on top were perfectly crunchy to compliment the moistness of the cake.
I didn't have a chance to warm the cinnamon roll, as I devoured it in the car as I drove away, but it was wonderful nevertheless, just enough sweetness in the glaze and a lot of spicy cinnamon rolled up throughout!!
The chocolate raspberry cookie was heavenly, and the little bulbs of raspberry popped their sour juice to balance the sweet chocolatiness.
The browny was like a trip back to my childhood! It had the perfect brownie top crust...I haven't had a good vegan brownie in decades, here or back home, and this was superb! And the walnuts were the golden crown on this classic done amazingly well.
Finally, the trifle was other-worldly. Vegan whipped cream is hard to make well, without tasting like a glob of coconut oil, but this was sublime. The cake was moist yet firm, the custard silky, and the strawberries were fruity and sweet with a slight sourness that wrapped all the other ingredients together in a big jammy hug!!
Rose, the owner and baker, was incredibly warm, sweet and welcoming. It's no wonder her treats are so sumptuous!!
I'm so grateful that I could finally find such good and yummy sweets here...I foresee even more of them in my future... especially her made-to-order chocolate...
Read moreWhen we found a flyer about La Maison Rose, we were so excited to make a visit. I love vegan treats coz I’m a part-time vegan. No regrets to delay our trip to Fuji. You can feel the love in the bakes and the owner is welcoming. She’s a very friendly and kind lady. Her warm hospitality can be felt as you step into the shop. We got the cream cheese bagel, earl grey scones, brownie and choc chip cookie. Everything tastes so good! I personally really love the scone. It has a crunchy coat and spongey inside. So moist and chewy it does not dry up your mouth like most scones do. The highlight is definitely the brownie. Omg! It’s fudgey and it’s happiness in our mouth. I had to make a quick sprint for round 2. So if you’re ever in Sendai, do visit. She serves different bakes everyday so you’re always in for a treat. It will...
Read moreMy friend shared a carrot cake muffin from this bakery with me and I knew I had to place an order for myself!
The owner is super sweet and responded to my messages quickly. My order was shipped out pretty quickly and I am LOVING everything I ordered. The gingerbread is my absolute favorite so far! The brownies are also very good and I really enjoyed the oatmeal cookies too. I can’t wait to try the granola tomorrow morning.
Everything was packed well and as you can see in the photo, it all arrived intact.
It’s so wonderful to be able to enjoy these delicious sweets without leaving my home. I do hope I get to visit La Maison Rose someday, but until then I plan to place orders whenever...
