Unagi Tempura Iwama-tei — Restaurant in Sendai

Saw this restaurant in a Youtube video by Ryotaro and visited during a trip to Sendai.

The restaurant took us in for lunch with no reservation required. We accessed it by taking the loople bus to stop 11 (Sankyozawa Water Power Plant) and walking from there.

The building is basically an old Japanese home that was converted into a restaurant and the garden and interior is really beautiful.

I felt that the staff weren't super comfortable with the language barrier, but otherwise the service was good.

I had the lunch special with Unagi and Tempura which cost around 3160 yen. The unagi was nice overall, but the sauce lacked flavour impact. I was expecting it to be a bit more melt in your mouth like previous unagi I've had, but that wasn't the case here. The tempura was on par with most other tempura you can find.

The set also came with Miso Soup, some fruit and a steamed savory egg custard type of dish. The egg dish is a bit of an acquired taste, the miso soup and fruit were good.

Was overall a good experience, but perhaps the unagi I've had at other locations previously had set my expectations too high. Worth visiting for lunch to get value out of the experience as the lunch sets are a...

Unagi Tempura Iwama-tei is a local restaurant that specializes in grilled eel. It is located near the Osaki Hachiman Shrine. The restaurant might appear a bit dated, but its clean and well-maintained. Unlike many other grilled eel restaurants I've visited in Japan, the flavor here is a bit lighter in a good way. I have visited it around 3pm and the place was quiet probably because its not the lunch time.

Long established unagi restaurant with cute Japanese style interior and exterior. The have fish pond in the entrance door.

The aroma of grilled unagi when the dish came to my table was awesome. The unagi was also shining shimmering splendid, with almost no bones, so I can enjoy the texture fully. The flavour isn't really sweet, but more to savory and almost salty. But I can't get enough. 😻

The place is open even in 3pm and I was hungry because I didn't have a chance for lunch today, so...
