Egg Cafe — Restaurant in Shimonoseki

The food was amazing, service was great, and the atmosphere was stunning. We ate the Pancakes, Eggs Benedict, and Egg Sandwich. The eggs are exceptional. They are locally sourced and sustainable. The chickens are fed with locally grown rice from a partner farm and their waste is used for fertilizer for the fields. The service staff was kind and accommodating, when we asked to move tables to the second floor there was no issue. Food came quickly and the staff was able to understand and interpret my lack of Japanese. The atmosphere is exceptionally captured. The color palette is light with a splash of cool colors. The view of the mountains is stunning with shrines near visible if you look hard enough. Closing thoughts this Cafe is a must visit in Shimonoseki for breakfast and lunch. The price for 3 full meals and coffee with cheap and less you'd spend on McDonald's in the States. We plan on coming back whenever we are in town. 【ロコモコやパンケーキ、海外カフェ風の料理が楽しめる！】

午前10時頃に来店。駐車場はちょっとわかりにくいですが、無料で使えます。 待たずにすぐ案内してもらえました。

メニューはかなり豊富で、下関ではあまり見かけないエッグベネディクトがあったので「冷製アボカドベネディクト」と、お店おすすめの「エッグパンケーキ」を注文。

冷製アボカドベネディクトは、トーストの上にアボカド半分が丸ごと！その上に卵が乗っていて、アボカドをしっかり使ってるのが嬉しかったです。特製ソースをかけても、そのままでも美味しくて大満足。

エッグパンケーキは本当に最高でした。ナイフを入れると湯気が出るくらい焼きたてで、添えてあったカップには生クリームかと思いきや中にバニラアイス！いい意味で裏切られて感動しました。姉と一緒に「これは最高すぎる！」って盛り上がっちゃいました。

店員さんもとても親切で、シェア用のお皿を持ってきてくださったのがありがたかったです。

気になる点を挙げるとすれば、テーブルが少し狭めで料理を並べると食べづらさがありましたが、それ以上に料理の満足度が高かったです。次回はサンドウィッチやロコモコも食べてみたい！

支払いはクレジットカード、PayPay、現金など色々対応していました。

Visited around 10 a.m. The parking lot was a little tricky to find, but it’s free. I was seated right away without waiting.

The menu is quite extensive, and since it’s rare to find Eggs Benedict in Shimonoseki, I ordered the “Chilled Avocado Benedict” along with the restaurant’s recommended “Egg Pancakes.”

The Chilled Avocado Benedict came with half an avocado placed on toast, topped with an egg. I loved how generously they used the avocado. It was delicious both with the special sauce and even on its own.

The Egg Pancakes were absolutely amazing. As soon as I cut into them, steam came out, showing how freshly made they were. What surprised me was the cup on the side I thought it was whipped cream, but it turned out to be vanilla ice cream! Such a pleasant surprise, and my sister and I couldn’t stop saying “This is just too good!”

The staff were also very kind and thoughtful, bringing us extra plates for sharing, which I really appreciated.

If I had to mention one downside, the tables were a bit small, so it felt slightly cramped when the dishes were all laid out. But overall, the satisfaction from the food far outweighed that. Next time, I’d love to try their sandwiches or Loco Moco!

Payment methods included credit cards, PayPay, and cash, which was convenient.

稀に見る低レベルな店。

注文は自分のスマホで。wi-fiは無し。 その際、ドリンクを食前か食後しか選べなかったので、同時に出してもらえないか聞いた所、店員より「同時に出せますよ。食前で注文して下さい」と。

待ち時間が30分以上かかったのは、満席状態だったので容認する。

が、私の連れに先に食事を持ってきた店員が、メニュー表にある写真と真逆の向きで配膳したのには本当に驚いた。 つまり、付け合わせのサラダが手前、メインの食べ物が奥。こんな配膳は初めて見た。皿は勿論、向かいに座っている私ではなく、連れの前にある。 ここの店員はそんなレベルの事も教えないとわからないし、店はそんな当たり前の教育すらしていない。

で、それから20分ほど待ったが、「食前」と注文したドリンクが出てこない。 テーブルの呼び出しボタンを押しても無反応だったので、再びスマホを開いてそこから「呼出」を選択したら店員が来た。ドリンクを食事と同時に出せると話した店員だった。

「同時に出せると言いましたよね」と確認すると、「すみません、間に合わなくて」と。

あー。そっちが「同時に出せる」と言ったのに、長時間待たせて、こちらが確認するまで何の報告もなしですか。 こちらが何も言わなければ、更に待たせた上で何の謝罪もなく、当たり前の顔をして持ってくるんだろうな。

その後、ドリンクと一緒に私が頼んだパフェを持ってきた。 そしたらその店員が、パフェの上に載っていた苺を落としてしまい、「すみません」とだけ言ってそのまま去ってしまったのだ。

……マジかよ……。

店員が落とした物を食えって？ それとも、嫌なら食わなくていいと？

私も接客業をしているが、うちの店で食べ物を落としたら、すぐに謝罪して

①作り直す ②値引きする ③お詫びの品を渡す

のいずれか或いは複数の対応を、状況に応じてしている。

目の前で転がったまま放置されている苺を呆然と眺め、稀に見る酷い給仕に言葉を失った。

セットのコーヒーも、ブ〇ックスの19円コーヒーと変わらない味だったし。

パフェの残った部分を食べようかと思ったけど、余りにも気分が悪く、２口で無理になった。

皿の向きを逆に配膳したのも、食べ物を落として放置したのも、同じ店員。若い女の子。 その子は自分のやった事を隠蔽した為、責任者は勿論、他のスタッフも何も知らないまま。会計時にも何の謝罪もなく、普通に帰された。

衛生面への意識は勿論のこと、仕事に対する真剣さも知識も、店や商品に対する誇りも、客へのリスペクトも、本当に何も何も何もない店。お金をドブに捨てるとは、このような事を言うのだろう。

ひとつ感謝をするならば、当面の間は大抵の理不尽には耐えられそうな気がする事だ。世の中の大抵の問題は、これよりマシと思えるから。
