ときわや — Restaurant in Tanabe

We came to this little quaint town to build an outdoor onsen beside the river and stumbled upon this spot for dinner. Very pleasantly surprised, all the food we ordered was delicious. The beef soba and soba with fried tofu were extremely delicious. The owner and chef was so friendly and gave our daughter some cookies. The food isn’t cheap but it’s worth it. To top of all off, the next day we were searching for our bag with our passports and thought we had left it at the restaurant, the owner helped us search for the bag at the restaurant and around the river. What a surprise. A very nice izakaiya in the middle of nowhere. The food was very good, the aubergine dishes were excellent. The range of sake acceptable. The was no ala-cart menu so we had to ask what they could offer, as menu was set nenu only. Bit the food that came was very yummmy. Overpriced restaurant serving underized portions and inferior quality sushi. For the sushimi, gyoza, beef curry and a beer i paid almost 4000 yen. If the portions were good that price would be reasonable - unfortunately that was not the case. Further, raw squid was served as part of the sashimi, which was inedible. Despite my complaints, the sushi was not comped or a substitute fish was offered. Not worth...
