Hong Kong Kibun did not hit.

the iced yuenyeung was weak overall — neither the tea nor the coffee components were very flavorful, the overall package wasn't particularly smooth, and it wasn't a very big portion (lots of ice).

the food was rather bland. my black pepper beef omurice had an unimpressive amount of meat and eggs, the sauce was not strong or seasoned enough to pair with the omelette and rice, and the thinly-sliced beef was too long (unwieldy tbh; should be more bite sized) and not tender. the HK-style french toast didn't have much peanut butter filling, was again underseasoned, and could be fried a little harder.

the bubble waffle was surprisingly well done.

the waitstaff seemed new, and they weren't particular good at their job. they didn't know much about the offerings and weren't very attentive. someone in our party asked for a lemon tea with less sugar, but the waitstaff didn't know whether it was possible. we said that we didn't want the lemon tea unless it could be less sweet, but we were served a full sweet lemon tea regardless. when we pointed out the mistake, the waitstaff took the drink away but left the charge on our bill.

inside, it was Warm with a capital W. the retro decor was very charming though. it's not a big place, so make a reservation.

perhaps my expectations were too high seeing how the staff all spoke Cantonese and perhaps my standards have been raised too high by all the good cha chaan tengs back in my hometown of Vancouver, but Hong Kong Kibun did not satisfy my hankering. not awful, but not good — a very...

Delicious authentic Hong Kong street food in this suburban Tokyo neighborhood. We’ve had the Ginger Chicken Rice, Char Siew Omurice, Taiwanese RuRouFan (husband is half Taiwanese) food tastes awesome, but extra wonderful with their homemade XO sauce! For sides, we’ve had their Mala Fries (excellent!). “碗仔翅” their homemade HK black fungus mushroom soup ( a common street food), Char Siew Takoyaki (I personally prefer it with a mix of Mayonnaise and their XO sauce). For dessert and drinks, we had Their homemade Iced Lemon Tea, and HK Milk tea. The strong taste of thick tea was exactly like how I had it in HK. We ordered both the plain Eggette waffle and chocolate one, definitely the best one in Japan and might even be better than the ones we had in HK.

• we wanted to try their handmade siewmai, which apparently is really popular amongst the HK crowd living in Tokyo but it was sold out* hope to get to try it soon! Will be a regular at this...

Tried: Shumai Rurohan Pork noodle soup

Shumai ★★☆☆☆ Pretty disappointing and expensive for what it is. Seemed more like fish cake dumplings, and they were incredibly small/flat. They are like frozen microwaved shumai. They come already covered in soy sauce, and if you ask for chilli oil it is also put directly on top of the dumplings. 👎 Not recommended

Rurohan ★★★★☆ Pretty good! Had a good serving of juicy meat and came with a fried egg with runny yolk. A little light on flavour, but I think that’s normal. 👍 Recommended!

Pork noodle soup ★★★★☆ At first I thought the soup was light on taste, but I came to like it. The included pork is quite tasty. The noodles are like instant noodles, which is a good thing and I’m guessing normal. 👍 Recommended!

Was hoping they had wonton noodle soup, but was pleasantly surprised by what they had. I strongly recommend that you don’t order the shumai, unless you want to confirm what I said.

I won’t be rushing back, but if I’m in the mood for rurohan or pork noodle soup, I’ll consider visiting again.

シュウマイ ★★☆☆☆ かなり期待はずれで、その割には高い。 かまぼこ団子のようで、信じられないほど小さくて平べったい。 電子レンジで温めた冷凍シュウマイのようだ。 すでに醤油がかかっていて、ラー油を頼むと餃子の上に直接かけられる。 👎
