kaei — Restaurant in Tokyo

Despite food being very good and authentic, the lady (who is probably the owner) needs to be a bit more respectful in how she talks. She spoke very rudely to us, asking us in a odd tone and passive-aggressive way to leave the establishment despite there still being 10 minutes left before their closing time.

Food isn’t necessarily authentic Chinese but everything we got was absolutely good. According to the menu, practically everything is homemade, down to sauces and flavoring. Apparently, the katsu curry, exclusive served on Fridays, is most famous.

It’s quite unfortunate that the hospitality or lack thereof by just one lady spoils the great things everyone else does really well in this establishment.

The Friday katsu curry is so worth going to just eat it. Damn it was wonderful. The fried katsu was light even though it was fried food. The ankake curry paired well with the katsu as well. It was my first time having a Chuka style curry. If only I did not have work on Fridays I would definitely show up every Friday until I get sick and tired of eating it. I hope to go back and try it.

The only inconvenience is that it is out in the middle of nowhere Ota-ku. If you can get over that...

地元住民に愛されている中華料理店という印象のレストランです。スタッフも地元住民との会話を楽しみながら調理や給仕をすることが多々あり、そのため、地元住民以外の客はやや利用しづらい印象を持つかもしれません。 一方で、注文から給仕までやや時間を要するものの、味はしっかりと仕込んでおり、いずれの料理もボリュームたっぷりで満足感を味わうことが出来ます。 基本的にスタッフの対応も気さくである一方で、衛生的に不安を抱くことも少なからずあります。このレストランが属する商店街には数匹の猫が定着し、近隣住民に愛されており、それはこのレストランのスタッフも例外ではありません。しかし、営業中であるにも関わらずスタッフが猫を撫でたりしていました。勿論猫に触った後は手洗いと消毒をしているとは思いますが、食品を扱うスタッフが営業中に猫に触れるのは適切では無いのではと思いました。

This restaurant gives the impression of being a Chinese restaurant loved by the local residents. The staff often cooks and serves while enjoying conversations with the locals, which may make non-local customers feel somewhat uncomfortable to use the restaurant. On the other hand, although it takes a little time from ordering to serving, the taste is well-prepared and all the dishes are hearty and satisfying. While the staff is basically friendly and helpful, there are a few hygiene concerns. Several cats have taken root in the shopping area where this restaurant belongs and are loved by the neighbors, and the same goes for the staff of this restaurant. However, the staff was petting the cats even though the restaurant was open for business.
