Starting strong from the free appetizer, 喜口屋is an Izakaya known mostly by the local. The owner was surprised knowing that I don’t say a single word of Japanese and asked how I know about the place(from a local, of course). Their menu is all in Japanese, and written in a format that Google translate cannot recognize so ordering can be a bit tricky. However, use ChatGPT and ask them for their recommendations - everything was good. We got sashimi, grilled chicken, grilled fish, pork katsu, clam soup and the famous raw egg stirred in rice with sashimi. Everything was so good, and with 6 drinks all came down to 160 CAD for 4 people. Insanely good food and price money value. And the most heartwarming thing is that they prepare a personalized note with your name written on it when if you make a reservation with them, with a treat of a discounted grilled fish dish priced at 10 JPY. I came here for lunch and got the sashimi set meal (刺身盛り定食). The quality of the sashimi was really nice. The 鰤 was my favorite. It was very fresh, fatty and succulent 😋

An excellent experience from start to finish. The inside is small but not cramped, with a cool rock and roll vibe. The staff was friendly and service was good. But the food was outstanding.
