Authentic Mexican Flavor in the Heart of Japan – A Hidden Gem in Tokyo
During my recent trip to Japan, I decided to break out of the norm and search for something unexpected—authentic Mexican food. My first attempt? A bit of a miss. But then, by sheer luck, I stumbled upon a hidden gem tucked away on a small, obscure access road.
From the outside, the place had a quaint, cozy vibe. Once I stepped inside, I was warmly greeted by a fellow San Diegan—at that moment, I knew I was in good hands. The restaurant offers both contactless ordering and traditional service, which I appreciated.
They had a solid selection of Mexican beers, including two of my all-time favorites: Tecate and Modelo Especial.
I went all in with the food: 🌮 Carnitas, Carne Asada, and Al Pastor tacos—each one better than the last. 🧀 A Carnitas Quesadilla with a side of creamy guacamole rounded out the meal. Next time, I’ve got my eye on the lamb taco.
What truly sets this place apart is their attention to detail. The combination of fresh cilantro, spicy chiles, crisp radishes, diced onions, and handmade blue corn tortillas made each bite unforgettable. Tony, Angel, and the whole team knocked it out of the park.
🎶 The Mexican music, warm hospitality, and truly authentic border-style food made me feel like I’d been transported from Tokyo straight to Tijuana.

Read moreAfter traveling across Japan for over a month, we were craving Mexican food. We had originally considered Three Amigos but decided on Mil Tacos because we heard it’s owned by a Mexican man, and we wanted to support a fellow Mexican in Japan.
We were a party of three. Two of us received our food fairly quickly, but my friend had to wait an unreasonably long time for her quesadilla. During that wait, every table that came in after us—including a group of four and a party of two—received their meals before she did. The group of four even ordered a quesadilla and got theirs long before ours. We asked about it twice, but it still didn’t come out.
To make matters worse, the waitress took the fan that had been directed at our table and gave it to the group of four, even though the restaurant was extremely hot inside. At that point, we felt completely disregarded. Since the quesadilla still hadn’t arrived, we decided we didn’t want it anymore. Just as we were preparing to leave, the waitress finally brought out the second round of drinks we had ordered a while ago. We told her we didn’t want the quesadilla anymore but she insisted the quesadilla was almost ready. Even after my friend said she no longer wanted it, the waitress went back and brought it to our table anyway. We ended up taking it to go—but not once was there a simple apology for the delay.
I do have to say the food was good but it was the service and attitude...
Read moreBefore booking my hotel in Tokyo, I had one question on my mind: where can I find some Mexican food nearby? It might sound strange, but after being away from my beloved cuisine for four months, I was determined to satisfy my cravings.
And let me tell you, this tiny gem of a restaurant is absolutely fantastic. I even got to meet the owner, who, as fate would have it, hails from the same beautiful state in Mexico as I do—Puebla! He poured his heart and soul into crafting our dishes, and the results were nothing short of perfection.
Every single bite was a flavor explosion! We indulged in enchiladas de mole, taco al pastor, a scrumptious chicken burrito bowl, cheesy chicken quesadilla, and refreshing agua de Jamaica. Each dish was more delicious than the last!
I cannot wait to return to this wonderful place on my next adventure in beautiful Tokyo.
