A really disappointing experience. We’d been coming to Pao for over a good 12 years, and it had been one of our favorite places to take friends and family. However our experience with the service and food quality was so bad this time, I don’t think we will ever go back. The young waitress on this occasion was fairly sloppy and unfriendly, but that wasn’t the main issue. We ordered humous to come a side dish with the main meal, but when it failed to arrive in a reasonable amount of time, we asked whether it would be ok to cancel (as we didn’t just want a plate of houmous on its own and nothing to go with it). The waitress said it was no problem, but then when we later asked to order a dessert, a young man came from the kitchen and berated us in front of our guests for wanting a dessert when we had cancelled our humous, and he refused to serve us! Bearing in mind, if the waitress had simply told us that it was too late to cancel the order, we would have happily accepted that _(the assumption being that a plate of houmous wasn’t something that needed to be made to order). But to be embarrassed in front of our guests, who up until that moment had had a pleasant experience, was unbelievable. The food had been on a noticeable decline, but we were hoping it was just a bit of a blip, but after this experience with the service, quite frankly, we will NEVER...
Read moreOverpriced and, even by Tokyo standards, ridiculous insubstantial. We paid over a hundred dollars (11,000¥) for thirty dollars worth of food (3,750¥), so prepare to order half the menu and pay through the nose. Furthermore, they close as soon as most of the tables are empty, not when it says on Google. We left hungry and despondent.
The food is pretty good, and Afghani couple were very nice and polite, though the woman doesn’t speak Japanese well and isn’t familiar with the menu. The ‘chimpira’—you’ll recognise who we mean immediately—is a different story, however: extremely rude and abrupt, and his eye rolling and sniggering ruined the evening for us. Definitely one to avoid — there are far better places available at half the price for three...
Read moreWe came here expecting to have one of those experiences where you like the food, but reminisce about how “real” Afghan food is always better than the stuff you find overseas. We left with expectations exceeded and vowing to return.
Our first time experience at Pao Caravan could not have been better. The various meat skewers were very good - cooked over coals outside - and our monto dumplings were out of this world! We did find the lamb ribs and tomato to be a bit expensive for the portion size, but, overall, did not have an issue with the prices, as some have reported.
Highly highly recommended. They are currently open for lunch on the weekends. It is advisable to call in advance and make a...
