Rōjina Sabō — Restaurant in Tokyo

My wife (Japanese) went to this restaurant 25 plus years ago while she worked as museum paintings conservator of Japanese Historical paintings. She was so impressed with the food at that time.

Also the reason my wife recommended this restaurant to me:

I am French from France and also French Canadian from Quebec Canada. This is both the food from France and French Quebec, Canada. Yes, I fluently understand and speak French, if you are wondering. My last name Picotin is 100% French from France and Quebec Canada.

Inside the restaurant it was extremely relaxing atmosphere. I felt I was in France or Quebec Canada.

The food was well prepared, excellent high quality, bacon that reminded me of Canadian bacon, seafood was abundant, cheese was perfect and etc. My family was totally 100% satisfied and 100% will go again many times again.

I had the seafood curry and chocolate parfait. It’s 50yen cheaper + free coffee if you come during lunchtime, so make sure to take advantage of that. The curry was good with a generous portion, and the seafood mainly consisted of shrimp, octopus, and oysters. The chocolate parfait was pretty pricey, 700yen for some whipped cream with chocolate sauce drizzled on top and vanilla ice cream, so I would recommend getting something else for dessert. Food aside, the restaurant in itself was very retro and soothing, would def come back if only just to enjoy...

久し振りに思うところあって、親友の彼との思い出をたどるため、ここに来て独りでｻﾞｲｶﾚｰを食した。★彼が生前私にした最後の相談は「献体」志願だった。死してすぐ、自ら志願した2年の「献体」のお勤めを終えて、今秋遺族のもとに帰るという連絡を夫人から受けた。志願者が多いとは思えぬなかで、彼らしいと感じた終末を見届けたい、そんなことを考えていたのである。 ★彼が幼少期から高校時代まで、私が入れ替わるように50年住んだ国立には、思い出が際限なくわいてくる。それはいいのだが、国立大学通りは、相変わらず鬱陶しいばかりの緑と、ﾃﾞｺﾎﾞｺが一部だが目立つ道路で、おせいじにも手入れが行き届いてるとは言えないのではなかろうか。★実は、国立町の始まりと関係する大学通りと両側の歩道の間にある緑地帯は、西武さんの土地。欧米ならばこうした緑地帯の活用は手馴れたものだが、桜の老木が多く簡単ではないようだ。それゆえ民間使用は緑地帯を遊び場とする保育園児達の天国となってるようだ。その昔この大学通りを、裾が地面につくﾛﾝｸﾞｽｶｰﾄで、ﾙﾝﾊﾞの如く地面を掃き清めながら（失礼）、優雅に散歩されておられたのは湯川れいこさん。今はこうした情緒をとんと拝めなくなった。★海外から国立に戻ってきて思ったのは、鬱陶しいばかりの緑。そして小用時に、海外で見慣れた高さより低い日本の便器に、自分の脚が長くなった錯覚を感じ、嬉しくなったことを思い出す。それが元の胴長短足に戻るのは、時差ぼけが明ける頃だった。そうした国立随想の想いに耽る場が、よく寄った ﾛｰｼﾞﾅ茶房であり、邪宗門だった。

2024.10.20 追記 前は、ﾒﾆｭｰの一番後ろに、ひっそりと、ｻﾞｲｶﾚｰとあったものだが。この頃はﾒﾆｭｰも見たことがないが、ｻﾞｲｶﾚｰというと店員さんは、すぐ反応するようになった。同時に、前は聞かれなかった分量を聞かれるようになった。分量多いですけど大丈夫ですか?。そうだよね。残される方もいらっしゃることが、想定された問答のように思う。 ★ここを出て直ぐとなりに、閉店してだいぶたつｶﾌｪ「邪宗門」の店構えが、昔のままなのが侘しさをそそる。店内の骨董ｲﾝﾃﾘｱにあったｷﾘｼﾀﾝの「踏み絵」の謂われ因縁をはじめとして、あの老夫婦とは随分色々な話をした。 こうした行きつけで残っているのは、ﾛｰｼﾞﾅ茶房くらいになった。 ★国立駅前のたましんﾋﾞﾙ5Fに、時偶（ときたま）だが仕事の調べものをする「たましん歴史資料室」がある。 春は眼下に桜の絨毯。秋は入り口の踊り場から大学通りの銀杏のｲﾙﾐﾈｰｼｮﾝの眺望が見えた。多摩関係史料の調べを見飽きた眼にやすらぎをもたらしてくれたが、この11月10日で閉室とか。 すぐ階上にはたましん美術館があり、「季節のかたみ」展開催中である。 たましんﾋﾞﾙの立て替えの為らしいが、文化空間の継承を切に望みたい。
