Shisen Hanten Mabo Tofu - Tantanmen Tachikawa — Restaurant in Tokyo

First experience with ma po tofu, and I loved it. It was moderately spicy but not overwhelming, and incredibly rich in depth and flavor. Since my first visit, whenever I come down to Tachikawa on business, I make a point of stopping here for a bowl. Word of advice... it’s located on the upper level of the mall. If you’re using google maps to find it, go to the marked area and ride the escalators to the top where you’ll find a cluster of restaurants. It’s located back and to the right after you get off the escalator. Hope this saves you from wandering around and wasting time...

I had the mabo tofu which came with plenty of rice, soup and some pickles. I also had three pieces of dumplings. The rice and the soup were ulimited as part of the set meal. The mabo tofu was tasty, just not delicious. The soup was also tasty, and the dumplings were average.

Service was polite and helpful.

The venue was welcoming and pleasant.

Prices were reasonable for the location and the amount of food.

I frequented visit to this place since 2000 until moving to current home in 2010. Came every week, I would give them five stars back then. Main dish taste the same and it is the top class 麻婆豆腐 in Japan. However, side dishes are not living up to Mr. Chin’s reputations since my last visit 4 years ago. Price is raised 20%. Still good place to eat this...
