One of the best tonkatsu I have ever had!! I ordered "special pork loin tonkatsu"(特上ロースとんかつ御膳), which was really juicy and very tender even though it was incredibly thickly sliced. Combined with their home-made sauce, it brought me to the heaven. One note is that the special pork loin was very fatty at the edge of each slice. So if you don't like the fat part much, then you may want to choose other tankatsu options. For those who don't eat pork, they also have some other options. My wife had "Kyoto-style grilled cod fish" (鱈の西京漬焼き御膳) and she said it was very good.
On top of the great taste, the inside atmosphere was so homey and an owner and employees were very friendly and lovely people.
NOTES. The owner told me that they close the restaurant when they run out of rice in the evening (due to their policy to offer freshly cooked rice). So if you're thinking of visiting there I'd suggest you give them a phone call. We did phone them and the owner kindly kept rice for us. Though a bit pricy, we felt...
Read moreWe were on our way to hike Mt Takao as 2 adults and 2 children and decided to stop for an early lunch here. The portions are large. The family service is exceptional. We had both the Hiru and Rosa pork tonkatsu. The sushi side dishes were high quality and delicious and even had some unique smoked and soy sauce marinated firefly squids which were freshly acquired the day before. The sweet shrimp miso and sweet shrimp sashimi were some of the best we have had. Recommend the lunch combos. Standard beer and sake selection was great as well. Get there early as while the restaurant says they close at 3pm, they started turning away new guests at around 11:45am that Wednesday when the fresh food ran out. Great local family establishment with wonderful portions, great value and...
