I really enjoyed my meal at this sushi and tempura restaurant.
On the day I was at Shodoshima most other restaurants were closed. Thankfully, Shimakatsu's doors were still open.
They have an English menu and I think the price for what they give you is very reasonable. I ordered the Shimakatsu Course based on the chef's recommendation.
The fish and vegetables were very fresh. I found the local squid especially sweet and delicious. The shrimp tempura was wrapped in perila leaf before frying, which gave it a nice spiciness which I found refreshing. The vegetarian side dish uses a special kind of soy sauce which apparently is local to shodoshima which gave it a strong umami taste.
The service was hospitable and family-like. The chef and matron treat everyone like a guest at their home.
I highly recommend this restaurant for visitors to Shodoshima. The food is delicious and good value for money. No Japanese language skill...
