Angel Road on Shodoshima is a must-visit destination, and after experiencing it firsthand, I highly recommend it to anyone visiting the island. This mystical sandbar only appears during low tide, connecting several small islands and creating a path that feels like something out of a fairy tale. The beach is incredibly clean, and walking barefoot on the soft sand is a delight.
If you time your visit right with the low tide, you can easily walk to the nearby island. The distance is short, making it an easy and enjoyable walk for both adults and children. Parents can feel at ease as their kids play on the beach without worrying about getting dirty; the sand is soft and smooth, making it a perfect spot for family fun.
After walking Angel Road, you can head to the nearby visitor center, where simple cleaning facilities are available to brush off any sand from your feet. The center also offers a fantastic view of the sea, making it a relaxing and convenient stop after your walk.
The scenery at Angel Road changes with the tide, offering stunning views whether at sunrise or sunset. As the golden rays of the setting sun illuminate the sandbar, the scene is truly breathtaking, evoking a deep sense of peace and happiness.
Angel Road is not just a sandbar path; it’s a beautiful journey that allows you to connect with nature in a unique way. For me, this experience will remain one of my most cherished memories...
Read moreOur family with 2 toddlers thoroughly enjoyed Angel Road. This review is aimed to help you with timing the tide and information for families with kids. We went at middle to low tide (30% swell below midpoint) and found it to be a very nice time (this was around 3 hours before lowest tide). I think those who are looking for fun and amazing pictures can even aim for midpoint of the tide to get a narrower bridge. The bridge would likely not be visible around 10% swell above the midpoint (my estimate). So you're safe to enjoy the view from mid to low tide. I googled the shodo island tide information to get the timing to determine what time to go there. If you're unlucky, you may pick a day with nothing other than high and medium tide, so check the tide map ahead. Lastly our children played in the sand and water on the beach. The walk to the end is not far, maybe only 4 mins walk so don't need to bring a pram. Water is clear but we saw a white jellyfish too. Great place for kids to play in the sand, and if you walk back to the parking bay, at the shop, there's a place to wash kids hands and feet if they get wet, but you'll need to bring your own towel. Sun protection is a must. Hope you or your family enjoys it as...
Read moreWe made a beeline straight for this place as soon as we got off the ferry, and were glad we took our car. The bus wait seemed a bit slow.
We missed the tide around sunset, and it wasn’t too crowded when we went. I was able to fly my drone here and capture some beautiful footage of the rock formations around here.
There was a couple that was getting wedded that day, and most people edged out of the way to let them take their wedding pictures.
Most folks descend down the steps to here, and come straight to the beach area to take pictures of the “island”. But there also steps to the left that are a bit discreet; they lead up to a series of stairs that give you a nice panoramic view of the island and there is a lover’s bell up on the...
