Ukai Co. owns a series of Teppanyaki restaurants across Japan, including Ginza, Kanagawa, Hachioji, Hakone, Yokohama, and even Taiwan.
The Teppanyaki experience isn't like your local hibachi grill: no flaming grilled onion volcanos or knife flipping, but a pure attention and love for traditional, delicious food and ensuring every customer has a world class experience that only Japan can provide.
The Yokohama Ukai-Tei is located in Kanagawa, about a 17 minute walk from the nearby train station. What that means is that the restaurant is somewhat secluded, and because it's not located in the heart of Tokyo, it doesn't have the same markup as a Ukai restaurant in, let's say, Ginza.
I went in for a birthday for a friend with a party of 6. We signed up for the seven course meal and a reservation is a must.
The presentation and active cooking of each dish was such a show. At the start of each course, all of us stopped talking. As if we all implicitly agreed to observe a pseudo-reverence for our food. Watching the live abalone be suffocated under a mound of salt and wrapped in seaweed was particularly interesting.
For dessert we were lead up to the 2nd floor and had 4 different choices to close out our meal. Then, as a final token, they offered to take a picture of our party ðž and print off a 3x5 photo for each of us, as a keepsake and to remember our experience.
I would recommend this type of experience for anyone who loves fine dining. It was around 180 USD per person. 10/10 would go again and recommend for birthdays, anniversaries, or...
Read moreUkai-tei was an unforgettable experience from start to finish. The elegant atmosphere, impeccable service, and exquisite dishes exceeded all my expectations. Every course was thoughtfully prepared and beautifully presented. The wagyu beef was perfectly cooked and simply melted in my mouth. The staffâs attention to detail made the evening feel truly special. Although itâs quite difficult to get a reservation, itâs absolutely worth the wait for a special occasion. I canât wait to...
