I always thought that the purpose of a dish/glass washer was not only to save water and energy, but also staff time, as they wash at such a high temperature that the glass come out at the end of the cycle practically dry and ready for use. Not apparently in the Pierson, where I witnessed last Friday the manager and staff taking the glasses out of the machine and “drying” them with cloths that looked like they had previously been used to wash the floor with. It could be that said cloths had been in a washing machine with items that were not “dye/run” proof. Either way, it did not make pleasant viewing. Then one of the cloths was hung over the coffee machine, presumably to dry it. Photo is poor quality as had to use zoom, but hope you get the picture!

This pub is excellent. Firstly the service is top notch. The team work really well together whilst 1 person pours, 1 serves. They do food. It is good quality basic pub food where the simple things are done to perfection. Chips are perfect. The fish looks excellent. The chicken burger is made with a real chicken breast. There is a tasty dip on the side with a small amount of salad. The music is great. There is traditional quality carpet on the floor. Major pierson is a wonderful historical figure for those interested. They only have 1 ale (liberation) but it is kept and cleaned well with good turnover at least once a day. They do a range of cocktails eg aperol spritz.

Fantastic old pub in the centre of St Helier with a great history. Apparently a certain Major Francis Peirson (January 1757 – 6 January 1781) was a British Army officer who was serving on Jersey. He was shot in the Battle of Jersey by French troops on 6 January 1781, one of the last battles to take place in the British Islands, and died inside the pub which was a private house at the time. Great pub food at very cheap price. The service was also first class. Sat outside for our meal and enjoyed it so much we went back a couple of more times, say no more! Well recommended.

Go here very often with some close friends, it has a busy atmosphere at the end of every working day, especially on Friday and Saturday. They have a great beer, wine and cocktail selection. For visiting in winter, it's rather cosy inside which will keep you warm and make you feel as if you're in a log cabin. Outside they have heaters and powered extending covers to protect a few tables from when the heaven's open.

They also do lovely food for lunch and sometimes dinner. It isn't part of any pub chain which makes it very unique, it also has a lot of history to it, as a historical figure to Jersey's history died inside the building.

I'd recommend going and I'll continue to go hear for...
