J.Z.Peking Duck — Restaurant in Almaty

We lived in 西安，Xi'an, from 2014-2017. I took those three years off work and studied the Chinese culture and language. It was an interesting three years. We developed a deep love for Chinese food and have become real connoisseurs. This place definitely caters to the Kazakh palate, but we're in Kazakhstan so I should expect that. It was an authentic menu with authentic flavors, but toned down a lot so locals here can handle the flavors. When we ordered 麻婆豆腐，ma po dou fu, we were warned it was REALLY spicy, and we were like heck yeah! That's why we're here!!! And it was not spicy. Or, I guess, it's spicy for Kazakhstan, but not spicy for China and definitely not spicy for us. I liked the tofu, but any 阿姨, aunty, would be furious. The texture was wrong. It was thick and dense, unlike the usual tofu served in this dish. We had 包子，bao, that was very authentic. I was sad they didn't have 饺子，traditional Chinese dumplings, my favorite Chinese food. I like dumplings so much I have a plate of them tattooed on my back. We sat on the patio and while it was nice to look at from the street, I wouldn't choose to sit on it again. It's too close to the road and the big trucks driving by made it difficult to enjoy. Also, I'd recommend changing the music selection. It was anxiety inducing. It kept thinking the kid at the table behind us was tapping on the table with his chop sticks and I wanted to tell him to stop. Then I realized there was no kid, there wasn't anyone at the table behind us; it was the music! I'll be back. I don't mean for this to be a negative review. The name of the place is Peking Duck and we didn't try the Peking Duck. Duck is one of my favorite things to eat and my poor husband is allergic to duck. I just need to find someone that wants to join me and I'll give the place another try. Update: gave the place another try and this time the food was okay but the service was terrible. I've since found much better Chinese restaurants in town and after such awful service I do t see myself ever...

I came to this restaurant to eat tonight and I left with so much pains in my heart as I wasted 25,000 on food that's not worth paying for. I ordered food for 2 people and the boy didn't pay attention to what I said he brought food for 4 people I said no. This isn't what I ordered for. They end up giving me different types of meal I didn't ordered. I paid the money without eating any of those food and left the food there. Such bad service I have seen in my entire life.
