Mombasa's best kept secret!
I stumbled upon this restaurant quite by chance. Tucked in between two of Mombasa's historical landmarks, Fort Jesus and Mombasa Club, you can easily find Old Town Restaurant right next to the curio shops.
The restaurant is very well decorated, making a fine balance between modern art deco and antique Mombasa collectibles with little notes of history here and there. What makes this place, however, is the scenery, and, of course, the food. In most cases, one would comment on the food first, but Old Town Restaurant sits right next to Fort Jesus, and the view is simply breathtaking.The restaurant's veranda sits between the sea and the fort, which makes for an amazing, though windy, dining experience.
The menu is quite simple for now, limited to mostly finger dishes. I tried their shawarma, which was excellent - served fast and very well prepared. I look forward to trying out some of the other dishes when I return.
All in all, the Old Town Restaurant is a must try. For history buffs, while away an afternoon here, and take a trip into the past, for it is here that invaders, traders and explorers first made their way into Mombasa...
