Artcaffé Restaurant Karen — Restaurant in Nairobi

I’m not keen on giving bad reviews, but this one hits hard. This used to be my to-go place during the last years, I was a regular, most meetings I would have there, would go there for a pasta lunch or a salad meal, I was their biggest supporter of the coffee pastry offer they had for early risers, and of course the fresh bread from the bakery, American Dough.

I don’t know if they have been struggling with management issues recently or some internal politics but everything about this branch became substandard and mediocre towards the beginning of this year. Multiple issues with delivered food, unmotivated staff and other minor and major issues that I would attribute to poor management, that were never dealt with professionally.

I really hope they restructure this place and do some drastic changes in the near future. I would love to go back there and feel welcomed, like it used to be before. In the meantime there’s a Java place just at the Karen roundabout and thin roof cafe just opposite the hub. Or CJs cafe at waterfront, with excellent delivery and...

Having been here before came back with the same hopes ...tried to have the steak of the day to my surprise despite the list of what's available they only had rib eye and Rump steak.... settled for the Rump which was supposed to pick the flavors of coffee notes as per the menu.. .I have a passion for beef but today that was the most annoying beef steak I had ever had 😥😓😡😡😡 yes I did make the worst mistake of sending it back in hope of something can be done but it only messed it more as it became crazy dry .. ... .... extremely flat in taste ....not hot it was just a steak of disappointment served in a beautiful garden salad ...and aside of mash room....the place looks very different not in any positive or negative way it's a feeling I can't explain the set-up...The Kenyan cup of Tea was amazing and the service great .... Hi, today I took a UK visitor to Artcafe the Hub, our first problem was the digital menu, yuk, eventually we viewed it on the cracked screened phone belonging to the waitress, so we ordered only to be told what we ordered was off the menu today ! So we went back to the cracked screen and ordered again, my friend ordered the Halumi sandwich and with salad and I the beef steak , when they arrived we were excited they looked fabulous, my friend was over the moon with her choice and thoroughly enjoyed it I however have a different story ! The sandwich indeed looked worthy of the price however on the first bight all was revealed I could not bight through the meat , I battled through the first half and REMOVED A PIECE politely asked the waitress to ask the chef to try and eat it, needless to say i took the second home and gave it to my Dog even he had trouble chewing it ( a 70kg Rottweiler! ) SO...
