CJ's - Waterfront Karen — Restaurant in Nairobi

Edit 2022: After deciding not to visit this place again, I came here for a birthday lunch. I ordered their ice mocha and chicken quesadilla. I was pleasantly surprised by how appetizing and delicious it was. I had a good experience overall, and I'm glad to see that their food quality as well as service has improved immensely. It was also a very busy Sunday afternoon, but the staff were very attentive and alert. I really appreciate the enthusiasm they gave when singing "Happy Birthday". They did a good job.

Original 2020: I want to like this place, but the two times I've visited, I've been left unimpressed. While I admire the wide menu selection and attentive service, the food itself is nothing to write home about, it's just O.K. I did not find it fresh, and given the quick speed in which it comes to your table after ordering makes me suspicious. The first time I went there, I told them the spring rolls weren't fresh, and they gave me fresh, new ones. The second time I visited, I ordered an iced coffee, but I think the waitress misheard and gave me a hot one. She asked me if I'd still take it and I insisted on the iced coffee. What she brought back to me was the hot coffee put in a glass with ice. I was quite disappointed that they couldn't make the extra effort to give me what I wanted. CJ's back when it was called Cafe Javas I Uganda was one of my favourite places to go, so I was so excited when a branch opened in Karen, Nairobi and I was not disappointed. The pizza was as thick crust, cheesy and generous with the toppings as I remembered- my favourite deep pan pizza in Nairobi by far delicious ice tea, indulgent takeaway carrot cake all with speedy yet effective service even though we visited when it seemed the restaurant was almost full. The decor of the new waterfront branch has a great modern feel with good furnishings and finishings. The only slightly negative comment I would have was that the cutlery was already on the table when we arrived, 3 sets of knives and forks on one side plate, our table was for 2, it took up quite a bit of space on the small table and with such high turnover of clients it was hard to tell if was left from last person or supposed to be there.
