La Casa Vieja Vitacura — Restaurant in Vitacura

We arrived at La Casa Vieja at 2:30 pm on a Thursday. There was no parking available, but some woman was determined to squeeze her car in, running over a few pedestrians if necessary totally ignoring the vociferous protestations of the parking lot attendant. The waiter was attentive and took our order quickly. The dishes came out fairly quickly too. The machas a la parmesana appetizer was thoroughly cooked, with melted cheese covering tough nuggets of clams. My wife, Santiago born and raised, loved the machas.

Paulina"s tapapecho with mushroom sauce was well presented, but the meat was overcooked and dry. She ate half of it. The congrio frito I ordered arrived with the flour casing broken in several places. The fish was overcooked and tough, and I got a double dose of spine, suggesting that 2 sections of the tail end of the fish had been encased in batter to create a single portion. With liberal doses of salt, the juice of half a lemon and the full contents of both pebere dishes, edibility was just about achieved. Would I recommend Casa Vieja? This restaurant is great for typical Chilean food. Tons of space with a huge outdoor patio and super cute indoor too.

The service was stupendous. A 3 man band walked around signing and playing string instruments. Food was incredible. I had the "pastel del choklo" which is kind of like a Shepard's pie but with mashed corn instead of mashed potatoes. They had huge portions of fish and steak too. Empanada appetizers hit the spot, and of course Pisco Sour to get things started off right.

Si buscas cocina chilena auténtica con historia y sabor, éste es el lugar.

🍽️ La carta está llena de clásicos de la cocina criolla: plateada al horno, pastel de choclo, caldillo de congrio, locos y erizos, machas, empanadas; todo lo que probaron estaba espectacular, con porciones abundantes y deliciosas! Eso sí, ojo que para los platos de fondo el acompañamiento se paga adicional.

📍 Cuenta con comedor interior enorme y amplio, una terraza frontal y un pequeño salón interior más privado.

👶🏻 El espacio permite cochecitos y es suficientemente amplio para familias. Eso sí, los baños están en el segundo piso, hay que subir escaleras y en el baño hay peldaños. Hay mudador en el baño, en el 2do piso; es decir bien difícil de acceder con bebés pequeños.

🦽 Es de fácil acceso para silla de ruedas, el restaurante tiene acceso amplio, sin embargo no hay baño en el primer piso.
