The Culinary Experience:
The heart of any great restaurant is, of course, its food. "Valtera Restorāns" excels in this regard, offering a menu that showcases the best of modern European cuisine with a focus on fresh, seasonal ingredients. The chef's creativity and skill are evident in every dish, from the beautifully presented appetizers to the decadent desserts.
Appetizers:
The appetizer selection is a delightful prelude to the main course. The "Seared Scallops with Cauliflower Puree and Crispy Pancetta" is a standout dish, with perfectly cooked scallops, a creamy puree, and a delightful crunch from the pancetta. The "Foie Gras Torchon with Fig Jam and Brioche" is another excellent choice, offering a rich and flavorful experience.
Main Courses:
The main course options are equally impressive. The "Pan-Seared Duck Breast with Cherry Sauce and Potato Gratin" is a must-try for duck lovers. The potato gratin is creamy and flavorful, completing the dish beautifully. For seafood enthusiasts, the "Grilled Sea Bass with Saffron Risotto and Asparagus" is an excellent choice. The sea bass is cooked to flaky perfection, and the risotto is creamy and flavorful.

No meal at "Valtera Restorāns" is complete without indulging in their desserts. The "Chocolate Lava Cake with Raspberry Coulis and Vanilla Ice Cream" is a classic, but the restaurant's version is exceptional. The cake is warm and gooey, and the raspberry coulis provides a refreshing tartness that balances the richness of the chocolate. The vanilla ice cream adds a creamy and cooling element. Read moreUpdate! Credit cards are accepted now )) And the best part is that dogs are NOT accepted ))) Finally a place where normal people can eat undisturbed by stinky pets. Finally a place where the job of the chef is respected where you can enjoy your meals without having a dog near by. Thanks a lot for this! It means a lot! Keep it clean, keep it this way. There is so many people who are actually searching for a place that doesn't allow dogs. Beautiful place, an iconic place working already for many years in Riga, food is great as well. Service = Update First time I was in this cafe was around 13 years ago, they had some times moody impolite girls, some times very nice and polite girls. Years has passed and it is visible that customer service improved a lot, no complaints at all, all staff is professional and nice. Long ago I mentioned that it would be nice if waitresses would visit tables more often to check if you want to order an extra drink or something, so they improved this as well. And now that I know that they DON'T accept dogs then for sure this is a 1 in a 1000 places in Riga and almost a sanctuary for me, I will keep coming for sure and recommending Elande to my friends. Portions are big and beautifully served. Cozy elegant atmosphere. Wide...

Pros: They serve my favorite Caesar salad here—it tastes amazing, and the price is €11. I highly recommend everyone try it. It’s honestly the main reason I want to come back to this restaurant instead of going anywhere else. Plus, the portion is large and satisfying, which is important to me because I love to eat well. The seafood dishes are also very tasty, and the desserts are great too. The drinks are good as well.
Cons: To be honest, as a Latvian, I personally don’t feel comfortable when a café or restaurant has a very noticeable presence of Russian-speaking people, both among the customers and the staff. While I haven’t experienced any situation where the staff couldn’t speak Latvian, they do speak Russian among themselves, and the majority of the guests are also Russian-speaking. This creates an unpleasant and uncomfortable atmosphere for me, despite the fact that the interior itself is beautiful. If this is something that matters to you as well, I would recommend sitting outside—there it’s hardly noticeable, and every time I’ve visited and sat outside, the atmosphere was excellent. I don’t recommend...
