We really wanted to like this place. The food arrived quickly, the visual was promising, and service was smooth and efficient, all signs pointed to a great experience ahead. The glowing reviews added to our excitement. But sadly, the food itself didn’t live up to the expectations. Makes you wonder if some of those reviews were written by friends. 🥸
The drinks looked and tasted cheap, small, weak, and definitely not worth the price. I really don’t want to judge a Mexican place by its nachos, but I think a real Mexican would faint from those store-bought chips and dips. And honestly, 5 euros for that nachos portion felt borderline illegal. We were especially looking forward to the tacos, but it was a sad experience. The taco shells were dry and bland, the chicken inside was just as dry, and the whole thing was topped with some lettuce and a couple of radish slices. No sauces, no seasoning, nothing to bring it together. It didn’t make any sense, and there was no flavour or balance to the dish.
It’s easy to serve simple food with love, but this felt careless. For the price, the quality just isn’t there. Paying over 20€ for this felt genuinely unfair. None of the dishes delivered even basic satisfaction. Places like this are all about atmosphere and food, and while the atmosphere was close and I really like that there's a local spot where people gather, you’ve got to work on the quality and bring...
Read moreReally enjoyed the authentic vibe & flavours at Amigo! 🌮🇲🇽
They’ve only recently opened and already stand out thanks to their Mexican management and genuine attention to detail. There are tables both indoors and outdoors, making it a nice spot for either a casual sunny lunch or a cozy dinner.
I ordered the steak tacos (photo below) and they were chef’s kiss – the meat was perfectly seasoned and the pico de gallo on top was spot on, fresh and zesty. My brother went for the chicken tacos, which were tender and juicy. We also shared chips with guacamole, which were crispy, fresh, and clearly made with care. You can feel the love they put into the food and the way they treat customers.
Prices are very democratic – especially for drinks and cocktails, of which there’s a wide selection. This time I went for Sangria (a generous glass and very tasty!), but next time I’ll try the Michelada, which I haven’t seen elsewhere in Riga.
Amigo has a great balance of authenticity, flavour, and value – definitely a place I’ll be back to. Muy rico, muchas...
Read moreWe had 3 different sets of tacos - beef, chicken and pork on corn soft tortillas which could only have been freshly made and they were pretty good especially for the price and we finished off with churros which were tasty...drinks wise we went little crazy and worked out way through most of the drinks menu..the strangest item is a mexican beer with spices and tomato which was great but also felt like an extra meal...what makes this a 5 star review is the staff...it makes me feel like I am not in Latvia....they genuinely take an interest in you, ask how things are and suggest items, they are super engaging and you leave feeling like you spent the evening with friends...price wise it is pretty good and if you compare drinks prices to other mexican places they are super reasonable.. We will be returning but plan to do it when they have an event...
